Living the Simple Life

Updated on September 23, 2015

They were always

so starry-eyed in love

making wishes on stars

strolling beneath the moon above

when people chased after money

they hoped to make their dreams come true

no riches did they need

just magic through the day

while others were busy discussing

what the future might bring

they were kissing

holding hands and smiling

knowing that things

would turn out right

if they kept their love alive

and so they drifted

living life the way it should be

enjoying all that nature offered

and none of the frills

in the forest they’d be

fairy queen and king

walking through the sun beams

that filtered through the tall pines

at the seashore

they’d be merpeople

splashing in the waves

building sandcastles

in which to build their dreams

rainy days were days

for dreamy city walks

and dancing down country lanes

they had all they needed

and their love

made it like the cherry on the cake

as each day ended

they’d look out the window

and make wishes on the stars above

they had each other

and true love

Rasma, your creativity is boundless. True love defines true living -- without, as Ruby said, the needless frills.

Such beautiful images you've painted in my mind, Rasma! I'd love to build dreams inside sand castles. I love walking through the rays of the suns as they stretch through the boughs of trees. Gazing at the stars, casting wishes to brighten the skies.

This poem put a smile on my face.

You've clearly brought out the goodness of simple living. As I read your poem, I just remembered "scholar Gypsy" written by Mathew Arnold.

There is a whole lot to be said for 'living the simple life'....that way you really have time to smell the roses and let the beauty of life sink in.
