Lonesome Serenade
Nightbird sings an evening's serenade,
its song-filled melody,
As I'm sitting outside on my front porch,
in such a state of reverie.
A beautiful and soulful musicale,
not reflective of this fine misery,
No better way to enjoy the night,
as a bright full moon to see.
Refrain:
Nightingale sing your sweet sad song,
If only for my ears to hear.
Tell a story of a love for country,
No more wars to ever fear.
We've spent too many days in a country far away,
There's no more time left to cry,
We can't change a people, what's left to say,
No reason anymore for us to try.
Brothers and sisters all have their religion,
It's not for us to decide a one,
Wars fought more than two thousand years,
never resolved, left undone.
Refrain:
Nightingale sing your sweet sad song,
If only for my ears to hear.
Tell a story of a love for country,
No more wars to ever fear.
Sitting in my silence, save for the wind,
The quiet is so peaceful to me.
No more bombs or gunfire to spoil,
only a shadowy moon to see.
Nightbird, you are my only friend,
One that sits with me here tonight.
Please stay a little longer if you will,
Later taking a farewell flight.
Refrain:
Nightingale sing your sweet sad song,
If only for my ears to hear,
Tell a story of a love for country,
No more wars ever fear.
No more wars ever fear.
