Long Ago (poem)

Updated on December 2, 2014

Long ago

When we fell in love

Each day without end

With you I would spend

Our dreams to attend

Long ago

-

Days seemed slow

And so filled with love

Moments of pleasure

Passed at our leisure

Times we will Treasure

Long ago

-

Long ago

I closed my eyes and dreamed of you

And there was heaven in my view

Each promised hope I ever knew

Our dawns rejoiced that this was true

This was true

Long ago

-

Winds did blow

Crossed the fields of love

Challenging our light

Drowning our delight

Still we held this tight

Long ago

-

We felt low

Even in this love

In the cold and rain

Work and daily strain

Hearts held eased the pain

Long ago

-

Longo ago

Music seemed to come from everywhere

Sweet flowers’ scent to add some flare

To kiss of romance in the air

Just me and you so much to share

-

And so with Joy each special day

When themes from eyes had more to say

You’d smile and I would sail away

To fantasies where love will stray

Love will stray

Long ago

-

Time will show

Meaning of our love

It was just a sleep

Which held us so deep

With so much to reap

Long ago

-

So we know

How deeply we love

These moments we faced

Each chance that we traced

Are memories placed

Long ago

Very nice Mh. Long ago, but just like it was yesterday, I'm guessing.

      Love the Carpenters.

God bless. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Perfect poem, so true! I just came back from a blind date, another mistake attempting to recapture what is not there. Loved this poem and the picture. I am singing along to the Carpenters as I type this. Thank you, Martin

I can feel that express time. A job well done, and beautifully, too, I might add.

Thank you for that, Mhatter. I don't know which I loved more: the lovely, gut-wrenching, tear-jerking poem about a yearn for a long-ago love that is no more? Or singing along with one of my all time favorites, Karen Carpenter. The Carpenters Singles was the first download on my Kindle Fire. Loved this! Up and beautiful.

This was so beautiful, Martin. Wistful and melancholy, only the way something could be that happened..............long ago.

How beautiful, but then I enjoy each your poems so much -- I can't think of any higher way of describing them. This is so touching, long ago... what a great way to reflect on love's reach through time.
