Longing Is Our Secret

Updated on May 13, 2012

No matter where I am
I’m ready to leave
As soon as I do
I begin to grieve
Is there no place for me
To draw from contentment?
Is there no time signature
That will allow accompaniment?
It’s best to be a shooting star
Leave them begging for more
Make them wonder why you leave
But their questions you should ignore
Yes this is how it is
Lockets of time to be collected
Wait until the chain calls
Then bring another to be connected
I can do nothing but come and go
This is how it must be
In the leaving is the seed
For the next flower you will see
In the absence
The rain will fall
Tears that sow
My hearts knowing call
This is the way of life
And longing is our secret
For we will rush together
Before the next beautiful regret

      "Tears that sow"

That line makes the poem right there! Great image!

Thanks drew... just wrote this up after spending the afternoon with my kids; I don't live with them so we make the best of our visits.

It's always a struggle to attain continuity in any relationship since our lives are filled mostly with the mundane and the necessary in order to survive. So we live with a bipolarity of highs and lows and can only try to savour those moments in which we hold our loved ones in our arms.

I felt these lines, yet the rest of your stanzas ring so true my friend, it gave me pause and a deep sigh was released. I miss my kids, do they miss me? I will never know. Great piece my friend, you simply never fail to deliver when you scribe from your soul.

@Maria - Hello. Yes it is impossible to have only highs but at times separation is necessary to keep it fresh or even viable. These words were meant to describe my relationship with my children but it can be about a lover too.

@Vincent - Hey man thanks again. It is from down inside as you know and it is about my children. I'm lucky to have what I have with them. I continue to pray for you.
