Loneliness .....Verse

Updated on June 5, 2014

In truth deep deep inside I know
that we are truly solitary by nature
yet the wonders of human nature never
cease to amaze me
the other night a friend of mines
daughter sat in his
living room alone
overdosed with a needle in her arm
and she did it
on purpose

On the outside she is vibrant
pretty and always smiling
but on the inside
tormented by her own life
it seems
once again
that I am so often reminded that
we are alone in our
in our pain
and suffering

And then here was that moment when the
phone rang and she answered it
and someone close to her
realized that something
was not quite right
about her voice
and called 9-1-1

Maybe just maybe
we are not ever that alone ...........

for my friend and his daughter.

Ruby , Albion , Victoria , Eric , Thank you sir ! Marina , Nellieanna , Anna , is going to be fine we hope ,she is in hospital for observation and as this isn't the first time . We can only hope that its a reaching out for help rather than an attempt to end her life . A young woman with a lot of challenges and medical issues . I have faith in her ! Thank you all so much for understanding !........Ed

This touches my heart. So sad when anyone - but, especially a young person with life before him or her - feels such desperation and lack of meaning for living.

There is a vast difference between being alone and being lonely. One can be alone but fulfilled and fully alive. One can be lonely, it seems, even with people around, when the inside feels either vacant or absent of peace, hope and empathy. One can seem to 'have it all' - beauty, abundance, plenty of obvious reason for purpose - but still feel deprived of what is needed to the fullest extent. It is beyond sad.

I hope the help arrived in time and that her real inner peace is to be found, Ed. Your poem truly tells the story. Hugs.

Hey :) I feel this one, as I mentioned though I have not been on hub I have still been writing. I mused on this myself, my metaphor chosen was the rain, "falling together, yet apart. Side by side but the keeper of a separate heart. " perhaps we are together in our loneliness. You are so lovely Ed, stay well.

Thank you for the poem you never know what eyes may find it, such as mine, when my best friend just passed away after he bearly turned 25... keep well good friend. My heart goes out for your friend and daughter as well.

Oh, wow. That was so raw and so sad. We are often along in our sadness. Few know what is on the inside. Excellent poem.

There is so much sadness in this world, i'm sure young people have fear inside with the thought of war, the bad economy and i guess drugs are their way of escaping. I'm glad someone called..
