Look Out

Updated on May 2, 2013

If He Only Knew

On the horizon the clouds are bursting and trouble is on its way

Scratching his head and thinking

This is not good

This is not a good day

The water getting rougher as each splash becomes louder

Until louder than thunder

As a fisherman only he knows the horrors of the deep dark blue

Where fish live and any person can't survive

As each wave lashes against the hardened wood

Cracking now as a whip in the night

The constant beating has continued for almost three hours

When will this madness stop

The insanity for any man to hold on and take punishment

That nature sometimes calm now as unleashed all its fury

Now a weak and helpless man lay

Knocked unconscious from a mast that broke

Coming down with such force causing such pain

One final wave will sweep him off the deck

Sending him over the side where he will sink

Until the fish eat his flesh off the bone

Then his bones will drop to their final resting place

We can hear the wind whistle

Then the silence after the rain

For yes the storm has ended

This fisherman will wake up with the sun burning his eyes

Only to have lived to challange nature and the sea

One more time

Where he isn't so lucky

Never to return to the home that he has left behind

For the unforgiving sea swollows thee

      Very nice poem Dream-On!

For sure, life at sea is not an easy job! We have to be thankful for the fish we eat because on a regular base there is one boat that doesn't come back.

I think that a few months ago a boat from Nova Scotia was lost at sea. Several families lost loved one. Very sad!
