Looking At Me In The Mirror

Updated on August 4, 2014

The Mirror

When I look in the mirror, This is what I can sometimes see:

Looking in the mirror clouded in darkness

All the places where I have been.
The culture that I had the chance to take part in.
Their personal beliefs around religion.
How others share and take something with them,
Knowing how they live and learn –
Loving within.

The thing is,
Everybody else can only see,
What this mirror is reflecting back at me.
You can’t see under my skin or,
Know what I am thinking.
The places where I have been,
Can only be told by me,
Reflecting outwardly from within.

The thing is,
There are times when the mirror is fogged.
I can’t see my own faults.
Develop a sense of how my actions can cause,
Pain towards others while experiencing so much loss.
Sometimes words can never be enough to assuage,
The sorrow which had come at such a cost.

I try to encourage myself while looking at me.
Understanding what festers inside can only be done,
When one of you is looking from the outside into the other one.
What everybody else can see,
I have been trying to seek.
The mirror has been fogged,
The demon made me believe that I was really weak.

I truly live for the love,
I also have many fears.
When looking in the mirror,
I just notice all those added years.

It takes courage to find that strength and trust.
Why should others have any faith if you can’t find,
That inner beauty so surreal and sublime.
All along that one person looking in the mirror,
It’s truly just us.

When seeing yourself in the mirror,
It’s really you standing on the outside looking in.
Experiencing love - Expressing the fears,
Seeing all of you completely clear.
Now there is no doubt.
I truly live for the love,
I will always have my fears.
Now this time when looking in the mirror,
All I will see is better added years.

Knowing how I need to live and learn and simply..........
Loving within.

That really touched me. When I was younger I saw myself as the girl in the first picture. It can take years to realise one's worth and that we're not all that bad or different from anyone else on earth. We're all good at something. Just not the same thing.

Well said Jane. I struggled for a long time during my youth never being happy with myself. Now that I am old with my own children, there is that new reminder for them to be happy with themselves too. Thank you for taking the time to read my poem. It means a lot when others take something within them when reading my own true feelings.

Between everyone out there creating hubs and my children, I have plenty of inspiration. Thank you for reading my poem.
