Losing It at Christmas Time

Updated on December 17, 2016

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I live in the suburbs of Riga, Latvia. I have a wonderful cat named Sid.

How would it be?

If it wouldn’t snow but rain

in the wintertime?

How would it be -

if it wouldn’t rain but snow

in the springtime?

Of course then nothing would grow.

How would it be -

if love made you dizzy

and giddy all the time?

How would it be -

if things turned upside down

and we took a look at the world wrong side up?

How would it be -

if we always wore silly grins

and ignored the world about us?

How would it be -

if there were no more tears,

just smiles and laughter through the years?

How would it be -

if we just let go of reality

and sailed away dreaming on clouds?

How would it be –

if that jolly, fat man in a red suit,

joined us for a glass of eggnog?.

How would it be –

to see eight tiny reindeer,

flying through the sky?

Perhaps it would be a delight,

to go dancing among slivery snowflakes,

on Christmas night.

Perhaps this world -

would be easier to live in,

if we were less attached to the world at large.

Making love a priority,

making happiness a necessity,

making the world more our playground.

Maybe losing it -

is not so bad,

just a tad letting go of all the seriousness.

Let’s find more time,

to be free as birds on the wing,

as free as the breeze blowing through the trees,

Let’s do some serious,

rocking round our Christmas tree.

with glad smiles

and full of holiday glee.

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas!.

I love this, Rasma! Life should be all about fun and frivolity every day of the year.

I hope you had a nice Christmas rocking around that tree!

Thank you Audrey. You know I think I started some kind of new Christmas trend. An awful lot of people have been boosting and retweeting this poem. I does make me happy but also surprised. Guess I really caught onto the spirit. Merry Christmas to you and yours and a Happy, healthy 2017!

Merry Christmas to you and yours and an inspirational and healthy 2017.

Glad you enjoyed this FlourishAnyway. That cat is my Sid and the photo from last year. This year he is eagerly awaiting for when we put out his ceramic tree.

Thank you Kristen. Pardon me must be the time of year and all the things to do but what do you mean no period after ? You mean there should have been a period after ?

      Thank you Bill.

      Thank you Nell.

Thank you Eric. More fun to be different from others. Glad you enjoyed that Christmas song.

      You are so right Ruby.

      Great stuff and beautifully written.

My friends seem to think I went crazy years ago. That is OK. For some reason they call me up and chat this time of year. I guess I left my Christmas tree up for years now.

Love it, Rasma! You're so right that losing and letting go of burdensomeness is not at all bad! Highly recommend it! It's in times when we most need to let go and embrace good tidings that there are often most of the burdensome things which try to keep us bound up and weighted down!

Hope you have a joyous Christmas and a promising 2017!

I'm a big fan of repetitive phrasing like you used here. Very infectious and effective, Rasma!

Great poetry with the imagery, the rhyme, and the message conveyed within in. Merry Christmas to you. One nitpick: no period after ?.

I loved the warm spirit behind this and the cat photo was over the top gorgeous. Made me want to do something fun and unexpectedly nice for someone I don't know just because.
