Losing My Direction - a Poetic Ending, or Beginning?

Updated on January 27, 2017
RJ Schwartz profile image

Poetry is the food of the soul. It's my greatest contribution to the world and an area I can always grow.

Questioning
Asking anything
Given an opening
Opportunity to start labeling
Shouting loudly but saying nothing
Opposition trying to control deciding

Wondering
Who's attacking
Why the assuming
Trying to force siding
Even if we resist the choosing
Interpretation by those beholding

Developing
Always changing
Measuring and ranging
What future is approaching
How the truth has seen distorting
Whose existence perceived encroaching

Pondering
Yes, thinking
Not just existing
Are we even participating
In something considered changing
Revolutionary evolutionary bell-ringing

Stopping
Simply relaxing
Taking in everything
Sensibility in the gathering
Ever vigilant information gathering
Seeking direction for what we're doing

Enjoyed the poem and its structure. Very creative. I can relate to the sentiments / theme as that has been a struggle since the election process began. It would be TMI to share. I hope many discover a path you have taken as well as myself.

Lov the visual form of this poem, Ralph, and the message is excellent. A must read.

Luke - my wife always says that it's the circular nature of being reborn each time; where we continue to improve spirituality and being involved in worthy things every time we are reborn, We continue to improve until enlightenment occurs, where our pathway becomes linear with an infinite endpoint.

Meant to say also that I like the steps of your poem - steps to realisation!

Great poem and progression, Ralph. You've accurately captured the stages of self-realization and enlightenment. Funny thing is, once we get to the end, it tends to start over again :)

'Cleansing' is a good word for your piece. It certainly did me some good!

Thanks - it's been a while since I posted any poetry on HP, but now that the election is over, this piece had a cleansing feel to it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

There are many who could benefit from reading this, mainly those in government (in Britain, at least)! Taking a reasoned approach is not something many people do as a first choice and that's a shame.

Great poem, sound basis. It brought me some peace.
