Lost Paradise

Updated on January 28, 2015

A forlorn garden

abandoned and bare

wilted and brown flowers

dying bushes and shrubs

a lost paradise

that once flourished and bloomed

Looking down upon this sight

tall trees and evergreens

always full of life

left behind

refreshed by the rains

and the snow

that nature provides

sorrowing that no one cares

Once there was life

there was color and the scent of flowers

there was happiness

and people delighted

in the pleasures of this garden

until no one came any more

and it all withered and died

a lost paradise longing to live once more

Came the day

when the first rays of the spring sun

found a green sprig

and shined down its love

the sprig began to grow

and soon this lost paradise

found more and more life

it began to live again

Came a gardener

who saw the green beneath the brown leaves

saw the beauty where there was none

he nurtured and tended

and renewed the life

of all that could be saved

then he planted new flowers

and cut back the rose bushes

the April rains did all the rest

and by May this lost paradise

was in full bloom again

The green trees tops

with newly sprung leaves

along with the evergreens

happily waved in the breeze

squirrels scampered and played

birds flew upon the branches

and sang songs of praise

for this beautiful garden

so full of love

It is snowing and cold here tonight so your spring poem was a little ray of warm sunshine. :)

We are having exceptionally mild days which make us the more willing that spring should come and come quickly. Good illustrations and picture words.

Beautiful Rasma, I love nature and I love your poetry. Lovely images too, and great song by the Beatles.

You have written another beautiful poem. I am kind of like a rose that longs for Springtime when the weather warms, and all the plants bud and get ready to open.

Glad to hear that Anna. We too here in Latvia still have snow and ice all around.

      Thank you Bill.

      Thank you Whonu.

      Thank you Demas.

Thank you Jodah. Wasn't sure of the song at first but Strawberry Fields seemed like a good match.

      Thank you Shauna.

Thank you Ruby. I sure hope spring is right around the corner.

Well I sure hope a lovely rose like you Mary gets her sunshine real soon. Sid has found shelter in a plastic bag and only goes out when necessary. Meows from him to Baby and hugs to you.

Life in full bloom is always wonderful Manatita.

      Thank you Nell.

      Thank you Venkatachari.
