Lost in the Abyss~A Poem

Updated on January 24, 2017

Depression can Feel Like Being in a Dark Tunnel

Source

Depression

Darkness envelopes her wounded soul

Bruises of pain and sadness

follow slowly and steadily behind

Engulfed with feelings of isolation and despair

She slips deeper and deeper into the morbid abyss

Where sinister souls claim their prize

From weary lost minds which hold no sense

She climbs now from her self-induced muck

climbing upward only to spiral back to the tomb of darkness

Escaping the torment only moments at a time

until the plunge becomes like mocking tones

that delve and penetrate deeper into her sanity

My Goodness....such an exact description of depression, a feeling of hopelessness....drowning in the despair of intense feelings from which one cannot escape. Makes me think of Sylvia Plath; "The Bell Jar." A recurring and inescapable reality which is all consuming and ever lurking..awaiting a chance to spring. Poignantly beautiful and compelling...beautifully written. Linda; I am always greatly impressed and pleased with your writing; you truly are a talented author! UP Awesome Interesting and Useful. Beautiful in your ability to describe, so clearly, the state of depression.

    MT,

Wow.Powerful and eerie nonetheless.I was absolutely hooked.

As much as I hope that nobody has to go to such pain, I know that it happens to some of us. I could only hope that they have more than enough strength, faith and support system to help them get through it.

    God bless.

That was about as good of a description of depression as it gets. Right on the mark, and hopefully, for most of us, we won't have to spend much time in the pit.

Exactly, and I think writing about it helps you move through it quicker and reminds us it ends.

Yea depression is part of us at times, coming to terms with it, and understanding the balance of it is just what is in the moment, but does not have to carry on to the next moment.

Depression is not a fun thing and this really helped me when I was feeling crummy. I love writing poetry to help ease my pains and highlight my joys. Thanks so very much for reading this poem. I think it's one of my best.

Yes it grabs you in the heart, feeling the despair.

    captured it here:

From weary lost minds which hold no sense
