Lost and Alone
I reach out to touch you,
Only to find out you aren't real.
I lean in for a hug,
Only to fall to the ground in emptiness.
I feel for my pillow in sadness,
Only to discover there is no such comfort.
I scream desperately for help,
Only to realize no one cares.
I run hopelessly for cover,
Only to see that the enemy surrounds me.
I try to understand what's happening,
Only to learn that it's impossible to know.
I ask how far back it is to reality,
Only to realize that I'm not the only one lost.
I wonder if there can be an end to confusion.
Only to find out that I will never know.
