Love: A Treasure Unclaimed

Updated on February 9, 2012

A lonely heart is

A treasure unclaimed

Golden sparks in a dark cave

Guarded by misfortune

One Valentine’s Day

On a card

I wrote of an elderly man

His coat over a shallow pool

So the love of his youth

Doesn’t ruin her boots

En route to the park

To a tree with their

Names carved

In the bark

Several small hearts

Engraved beneath

Initials of their fruit

In the center

Of each one

When I was done

I threw it away

Holidays are cliché

Chocolate boxes

And dates

Trying to

Get some

Love
