Love Hurts Every Time

Updated on November 29, 2013

Her life had always been

Hell on earth and she was tired

Always making the wrong choices

She could count

The number of times

That love had failed her

The number of times

That she had thought

This is it

Love at last

Only to discover

That she had been lied to

Been cheated on

She’d even b been abused

And by the guy

She wanted to marry

Finally she just had to admit

Love hurts

And crumbles hearts

Love hurts and leaves you bleeding

Crushed beneath a cruel barrage of words

No not any more

Not for her

Her friends kept insisting

That Prince Charming

Would come along one day

But when she thought about it

She imagined him

Abusive and angry

Not loving and kind

No not for her

Not anymore

Love hurts

He was still reeling

From the wedding that hadn’t been

Putting all the pieces together

He was the one who had been wronged

He was the one who had had

His heart broken

And he vowed never to trust a female again

Love hurts

It makes you feel

As if a knife has been plunged in

And then slowly pulled back out

The sleepless nights

And evenings in the company of bottles

No, not for him

Not ever, not anymore

Love hurts

Others could have it

Others could go searching for it

He was done with all of that

Love hurts and leaves you bleeding

The fates decided to play a joke

On the day when these two met

They discovered that they had

The same birthdays

And their friends

Chose the same place to celebrate

She wondered who he was

The one who shared her day

And he wondered about her

And hated the fact that she was a female

Their friends thought it most delightful

And before anyone knew

The parties of both

Had been combined into one

Two birthday cakes

Twice the balloons

And friends discovering new friends

But inside they seethed and raged

Smiling on the outside

But scared and hurting on the inside

The party ended in the wee hours

Friends woozy and cheery

Heading every which way

That was when she realized

That she had been left behind

While looking for a cab

He came and stood beside her

Just the first look

That passed between them

Made the discovery

That here were two souls

So very wary of each other

So he decided to see her home

And she decided to let him

Together they choose to walk the empty streets

As warm winds blew and stars twinkled above

When they reached her town house

Not more than a dozen words had passed between them

And as they stood there

He looked at her

And thoughtfully told her

That he was sure her story was similar to his

And could they share their grief

And so it was that they talked until the morning light

Surprised them

He looked at her

And she looked at him

They both realized love was giving them another chance

Their passion was intense and so very real

And as they came together

One last time they shouted together

Love hurts

But they knew that it wouldn’t any more

Love had been thoroughly tested

And they knew that their love

Would stand strong and true

      Hi gypsy-rose-lee...

Another masterpiece of life's reality. A culture of "love". So many and different versions of it; guessing and searching until the day of stable , true LOVE independent of feelings, emotions, changes is found.

      Voted up and interesting.

      Good day.

You truly painted a really sad picture from both perspectives. It's like a mini movie which feels so visceral and real. Then ~ happy ending that is worth its wait in gold! :-)
