Poetry of the Soul's Emotion--Collection of Original Poems

Updated on July 10, 2012

About My Poetry

I love creative writing as well as poetry and often challenged by my friends to write a poem or a short story within a certain time period. Innocence Lost was a challenge, and I was given 2 hours to create this poem. My other poems listed below, was a little easier and I had up to 45 minutes to create.

Thank-you for taking the time to read through my world of poetry. I hope you enjoy!!!

Innocence Lost

In the golden age of the sun,

Mankind’s life has just begun.

Once simple now hardened by life’s veracity.

Innocence lost by others cruelty and tenacity.

Shattered hearts caused by others greed;

Others not caring about someone else’s need.

Hearts lost in sadness and despair;

Desperately searching for someone to actually care.

Selfishness creeps through the broken heart, the innocent gives in,

Innocence turned by others now turns to sin.

The soul and heart crumbles then reborn becomes ice.

Cold, lonely, cruel, and broken now becomes the heart’s device.

Innocence now lost becomes mankind’s new token.

A plague of despair that everyone knows but rarely it is spoken.

Contagiously the pestilence engulfs all with cruelty, slander and the gossip it spreads

Like wildfire through dry brush, it seeps deeply into hearts and then to our heads.

What could have been lies and deceit becomes our new truth our new conviction that we seek.

Our maddened minds clouded by this plague of treachery, slowly turning and becoming fatally weak.

Is mankind doomed to this destiny and fate?

Has this become mankind’s new found trait?

Listen carefully to the whispers of cruel intentions,

It is up to us to ignore what this plague mentions.

The sands of time continue to sift our lives fleeting swiftly through the sands,

The plague of despair continues with deceit, is this what our destiny demands?

The light of truth can prevail and destroy the pestilence we instilled

Innocence can be restored and hearts of love can again be filled.

The time of sun is passing abruptly.

It is up to mankind whether we live it corruptly.

Blind Man

An elderly blind man stood motionless on the ocean’s shore.

He heard the echoes of the ocean’s waves crashing beneath the ocean’s floor.

His heart stopped to the sound of the waves,

crashing through the caverns of the ocean’s caves.

Darkness spread against the light.

The man couldn’t tell that it would soon be night.

His heart beat slowly; it was falling weak.

At last he felt the beauty he came to seek.

His heart stopped as he fell to the shore.

Darkness existed in his life no more.

Although darkness engulfed the land,

only light prevailed across the sand.

As the soul crept from the old blind man, he smiled at the ocean as he rose from the shore.

“Thank-you for my sight I have once more.”

As darkness falls across the land,

time dribbles on like the long fallen sand.

Darkness engulf our very souls,

especially for some in life that has reached their very lows.

Sadness creeps deep within our lonely hearts,

feeling like long, thorn-spiked darts.

Those who embrace the light,

are not quite sure if they will win the fight.

For darkness ensnares each and all.

It is up to us whether or not we fall.

To darkness it is just a game,

promising us love, money, and fame.

United we stand tall,

together we shall not fall.

for there is a time when the sun will once again rise

and darkness will meet its long waiting demise.

My yearning heart is falling weak.

So often we should but do not speak.

One time, my heart did not feel broken,

For our feelings were often spoken.

Lovers we were with strength to last forevermore.

At one time our hearts beat as one, our souls once united could infinitely soar.

Now sadness engulfs my heart and soul.

Our relationship has met its final toll.

If only you could speak to me from your heart,

Our relationship would never fall apart.

Together we were once strong,

Never did our feelings ever seem wrong.

We once had happiness in our life,

Now all we have is loneliness and strife.

What in our relationship can we repair?

Or are we destined to a life of despair?

Speak to me from depth of your soul

Tell me your dream, your desire, your goal.

Our hearts need not be broken,

If only our true feelings are spoken.
