Love Remains Forever

Updated on November 5, 2013

It was a rainy day

The mist was rolling in

It was the kind of day

That made him remember

The pain and the heartache

That never seemed to end

He wished oh, how he wished

That they had had a dozen children

All who had her lovely smile

But they were young

And they had lots of time

Only fate had been so unkind

They had been so happy

A love that was so true

She was his sunshine

The one who made him always smile

How he wished to turn away that day

Which changed his life forever

Had never been

But with the special love

That they had had

He never thought that life

Would play the fatal card

She had been so very happy

To hear him say

Let’s go away

And rejoice in our love

So they packed up

And headed for the country

Just for awhile

To get away from it all

The two of them and their special love

Alone in bliss and comfort

They took off

On the road heading for the highway

Singing and laughing

So carefree and full of joy

The day that had brought so much sunshine

Slowly drew gray clouds

And soon the raindrops

Began to fall

They spoke of rainbows

Coming after the storm

And drove on looking for a clearer sky

But the storm clouds

Didn’t roll away

And soon it became quite dark

They kept on driving

And wondered if they should stop

Then there was the bright flash

Of oncoming lights

They blinded and they flashed

There was the screeching of brakes

And the sound of tinkling glass

All he knew was the blood

And the dark of night

On the road he cradled

Her in his arms

And she opened her eyes

The last that he heard

Was her sweet voice

Telling him she loved him

Then she was gone

And he knew nothing any more

The next day he awoke

Reaching out for his love

Then he remembered the she was gone

Gone from him forever more

No one had ever seen

A grave covered with a dozen red roses

As the sky above kept crying

Crying as his heart ached

It was the first rays of the sun

That awoke him

He was still there

Beside the grave

And as the first rays of the sun

Washed over him

He saw her before him

Her loving smile so dear and familiar

She reached out her hand

And he eagerly took it

For just a moment

He realized that he could go on

Go on until they would meet again

Up beyond the stars

And then the angels came

And there was a blinding flash of light

She whispered sweet love to him

And then she was gone

Now here he sat with sweet memories

Knowing that however long

He would always hold her love dear

And someday they would be together

Once more walking hand in hand

Up in heaven above

This brought tears to my eyes. So beautiful and so sad. Let's hope we meet our loved ones again when we too end our lives on this earth.

This poem has it all, the ups and downs and then a beautiful ending with love that lasts until eternity and encouragement to pick oneself up and get on with life until then. So very good.
