Love Returned

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I live in the suburbs of Riga, Latvia. I have a wonderful cat named Sid.

She last saw him standing on the road,

his back retreating, shoulders hunched.

Walking slowly away from her -

she wondered why this was meant to be?

Something about their dreams,

no longer the same,

something about,

losing that love that was once there.

For a long time she had gone on,

with deaf ears to what he was saying.

Hoping that in the end,

love would win over all.

Now that reality,

had come creeping in.

Her dreams had turned to nightmares,

as he was really going out the door.

Tears were flowing like streams,

her eyes misty and unseeing.

Her heart was breaking,

but he continued on.

She returned home with heavy heart,

bewildered and oh, so hurt.

She thought the night would be -

a never ending story for her.

She had no energy left inside,

no strength to go on.

At midnight the moon and stars -

shone as bright as once their love did

and it was hard to believe he had gone.

She wondered what he was thinking,

if perhaps he was now missing her.

No cruel or hurtful word,

had been exchanged by them.

Their last kiss –

was a kiss of parting.

Perhaps someday the fates will be kind

and he’ll come back home to stay.

Then a silhouette appeared on the road beyond

her window and she could see a shadow growing ever closer.

She hurried out the door and ran and ran,

toward her destiny.

His sheepish grin

told her all she had to know -

her life and love now belonged,

to him only.

Beautifully done! This one flowed like an organised story-telling with lots of thought put into it, or perhaps a naturally inspired rhythm. Either way it flowed well.

I was thinking, that as things were or appeared to be getting gloomier, I would have made the moon and stars appear dark, heavy, but then he returned ... the effulgent Light began to shine again. Exquisite!
