Love for Just One Night

Updated on July 10, 2013

There couldn’t be

Two people so completely different

As the guy who was a drifter

Biking from town to town

Working for awhile

And then moving on

She was a rock and roll singer

Who played in nightclubs

Trying to make it big

He saw her one night

And was hypnotized by her beauty

He knew he had to meet her

As passion for her

Surged right through him

When they met

It was electrifying

She climbed on his bike

And they roared off

Into the night

He took her out into the country

Far away from the city lights

And they came together

By a lake in a sweet smelling meadow

And it seemed as if their passion

Would never be sated

Like a fast flowing river

Hitting the rapids

Their need for each other

Burning like the hot flames

Of a bonfire gone wild

For a moment they lay

Beside one another

And just held hands

Then he looked over toward the lake

And it looked like molten silver

In the full moonlight

He helped her up

Together they went to the lake

With the heat of passion still around them

And the hot, sultry summer night

That held not a single breeze

They slipped into the water

Which felt so heavenly

Quietly with just the sound of lapping water

They swam

Coming together time and time again

To kiss in the shimmering water

Until the fires flared again

And he carried her out

And laid her on some fresh clover

Finally when their love making

Grew slower and the need was spent

They lay together

In the still of the night

And when he saw the sky

Was becoming lighter

And the stars like little lights

Were becoming dimmer

He pulled her to him once more

And she smiled at him

With a sad smile

But he held her

As he told her

That even if they’d had

But one night

He’d never forget her

He’d love her for a lifetime

And perhaps someday

If there was a better time

For them both

They’d find each other again

And this time they wouldn’t part

No regrets, no thoughts about tomorrow

They’d had one night

And for now that was enough

And when he left her in the city

She watched as he rode off

The handsome drifter

Who had stolen her heart

Wow! What a heartfelt beautiful poem. It's not just a poem. It's a story that tugs at our heartstrings, that makes us feel and connect.

You've written and shared a story whose every moment preserved in poetic form is enjoyed and savored.... And it leaves us thinking too.

Voted up, beautiful and shared with my followers :)

If only love didn't happen this way sometimes... Sometimes we fall in love without intending for it to happen and then fate interferes and we never see that person again yet he/she remains in our heart and our love for that person never fades.

Now, you've given me a confused thought...I am beginning to think that love may be possible in some one- night- stand relationships. Nostalgic.

Nice poem, but a lot of people confuse love with passion of the moment.
