Love in a Gentler Time

Updated on May 28, 2014

Love in a gentler time

When life was simple

When lovers walked hand in hand

And life was so very fine

Love in a gentler time

When love was love

Nothing technical or modern

When the city streets

Were lit by lanterns

And the soft yellow lights

Reflected in a lover’s eye

Love in a gentler time

When lovers could walk

In parks and see the stars above

When neon lights didn’t out shine them

And they all looked like glittering diamonds above

Sitting underneath the full moon

And listening to cricket choruses

Love in a gentler time

When lovers danced in ballrooms

And not on the disco floors

When you could hold on tight

And romantic music held sway

Love in a gentler time

When life was so sweet

When lovers loved

And tender kisses were shared

When rainbows brightly seemed to fill the skies

Dreams seemed reachable

And life magical

To go back again

To a time when romance was tops

And lovers still whispered sweet nothings

When love was love

When lovers dreamed

And shared sweet bliss

With every single kiss

The moon above still winked

And the morning sun

Glowed so very bright

Lovers danced in the rain

And life was so very sweet

Birds sang and flew

In a sky of brilliant blue

Not hindered by smog

And love was still love

Just as it should always be

For you and me

Gentler times indeed, Gypsy. Quite touching and for me very real. Oh for those moonlit nights and walks in Parks, gentle kisses and cute hugs.

A most appropriate song. God bless you, my romantic Friend. What has happened to those good times?

Glad you enjoyed this Ruby. Yes, those neon lights sure light up the night.

Wish we could go back Jodah. Thanks for the vote.

This poetry is so beautiful…it sings of a time when lovers shared feelings and experiences that were not hindered by progress and what we have lost from our so-called “advancements.” It seems that everything has a price. Voted up and shared. :-)

Hey girl , Wouldn't it be nice if we could go back to a simpler time of relations . Instead , as a sixty year old man , I feel we have entered into the invisible years ! LOL Nice one !....Ed

      Hi gypsy-rose-lee.

Very special, one of the best on love- old- fashion "lovers " to whom love was/is love never substituted by feelings and emotions or selfish orectic.

      Beautiful, interesting.

Another beautiful poem, Gypsy! I love the pictures you paint:

In parks and see the stars above

When neon lights didn’t out shine them

And they all looked like glittering diamonds above
