Love letting go...Poem

Lisa is a substitute teacher who studies English Literature. She lives to write and is following her dream of becoming a professor.

Love letting go

Sometimes I feel so lost

I struggle to grasp a memory, I know I forgot

I’m drowning in a world where nobody cares

And long for one where things make sense and life is fair

Oceans of regret fill my lungs and pour out my eyes

Regret for me, regret for him, regret for the loss of joy in our lives

The sadness is replaced by anger that boils and burns

We keep making the same mistakes, yet never learn

I feel like I am in a labyrinth, searching for myself

One way ends in enlightenment, the other ends in hell

Round and round we go

Will we survive this? Nobody knows

He says left, I say right

Why must everything end in a fight?

It's like a challenge, let the games begin

He hurts me, I hurt him

Why don’t we see that in the end

Neither one of us is going to win

The anger is better than the silence

It’s like being alone in a room full of friends

I walk in he walks out

I sit down stunned, wondering what life is really about

My mind flashes back to the days

That we swore we would never walk away

New love was budding and our friendship bloomed

Everlasting hope was as abundant as the air we consumed

Those days slowly disappeared

And were replaced with children, bills, and fear

We grew up, we grew apart

There is no one to blame, we both played our part

I just want to get it back again

I truly miss my best friend

We have become strangers going through the motions

Both of us ignoring our emotions

This is something that we need to change

We either have to fix this now, or just walk away

Beautiful piece of writing.I like it.Keep up the good work.

It could be fixed if we bury our hatchet and give it an other shot. Both we should give promises and learn letting go.I voted up.

Beautiful poem with true emotions, sometimes it is better to walk away. The saying "when one door closes, another one opens" is very real. Well written poem, voted up:)

Unfortunately we all eventually exit the 'honeymoon period' of our relationship, and if children come along it is more about 'them' than 'us'....and your words captivate this very well, especially the line 'strangers going through the motions'...a well written and heartfelt piece. Thanks for sharing:-))

Beautifully written. Unfortunately, that is the way many people are now. I have lived this many times over. Yet I still make the same mistake. When you love someone, you love them. It doesn't matter in the end whose right or wrong. I really enjoyed this poem. You have a very good talent. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
