Loving You Into My Life

Updated on August 13, 2011

I have always loved you

Even when I looked for you

In childhood games

In books at school

In the reverie of my thoughts

You were present like the glint of sun off a glass

Like the smell of Jasmine in the gust of a night breeze

And when my heart hurt

Trying to find you in a Summer romance,

In a glance in the hall

In the labored rehearsal with stand-ins

You were there in the shadows

Waiting your chance on the stage

Your turn on the dance floor

Your role in the play of my mind

I fought for you then, not seeing you there

Besting the dragons

The races

The tests

The victory feast was empty without you

So I loved you in silence

But sometimes, when I would stand

On the highest hill

The farthest ocean

The busiest corner

I would call out for you

I still remember knowing you heard

Feeling the deep feelings

The certainty of you

Through the years the nearness of you

Warms and spurs me on

I am loving you into my life

So it can begin

The privilege is mine IYAH, it may, however, be a future rather than a present reality. I believe this is possible and that's why I wrote it.

The test I have made for myself is a simple one. The two of us must fundamentally approve of each other. This, I find, is easier for me than for others, but (as Kirstin Dunst says in Elizabethtown,) I am intrepid. I really appreciate your stopping by. =:)

Hi Danny, thank you for the visit and the kind words. I think my translation of Genesis would be..."In the beginning there was love and the rest is history." =:)

I'm glad you enjoyed it FL, the connection we have with the one we love goes beyond the physical. I read your excellent tribute to your husband and that is the flip side of this poem. The power of love transforms us and is worth whatever it takes to keep it alive and glorious. Thank you for your kind words. =:)

Hi AC, it's a wondrous thing how love choreographs the heart and words and we who have been there know the steps. Thank you for joining in the dance. =:)

CG, I am so happy you liked it. I have always been and always will be an incurable romantic--believing in the kind of love that "lifts you and sweeps you along." Thank you for that incredibly gracious response--it means a lot to know someone can read and tune in to the magic we feel in our heart. =:)

Wow, what a poem. My goodness, this is a dance! I just love the way this poem lifted me up ans swept me along. The mind behind this is special, and rare, and wonderful. The last lines are killer -

"...I loved you into my life

      So it could begin..."

I am so impressed by this. I am happy to be a fan of yours.

Thank you Ana, the concept of loving someone into your life is a little like the idea of how we came to be on the earth--some call it chance, I prefer to believe we were loved into being. Good to see you. =:)

Beautiful poem. Positive and Hauntingly romantic.

Ahhhh...the power of hope and expectation, and of course love. I truly believe that we create our own reality.

Hello B'Lady, and thank you for your comment. It is interesting that when you are young, your love is out there somewhere waiting to be found or looking for you. I just took it a step further because I believe that love has a power to create or at least coax dreams into reality. =:)

Steph, I like your choice of words. I think sometimes if the dreams of poets are "real" enough, you could not only stumble upon, but stumble into them like Alice and the rabbit hole into Wonderland. I very much appreciate your comment. =:)

Beautiful words.Your poem reminds me of somthing similiar.I once heard on Tv of some girls that wrote diaries through their teen years to their future and yet unknown husband. They wrote hopes and dreams, and also assured their future husband they were staying chaste and waiting for him whoever he might turn out to be. I thought it was sweet, and it might have helped young girls be more determined to live a moral life, who knows?

This was written so well - not just because of your choice of words or the fact that it makes sense, but because it's so convincing. It's so real and right at the same time, if that makes sense. It's something I have been desiring to stumble upon.
