Lullaby For Vices

Updated on March 24, 2015

Tell my vices I’ll be home soon

Tell my vices I’ll be home soon

To tuck them into bed and drown them in their sleep

Tell my confidence it’s dead

And to stop attacking me

Tell my family I’m sorry

For not being what they want me to be

Tell everyone I’m leaving

To a place where they cannot find me

I can see the outstretched hands clawing at my sanity

Sketching indentations of doubt and uncertainty

Maybe I’m alive because my soul cannot escape me

And maybe if I die, I can finally break free

Sing to my vices and feed them from my flesh

Because, for their loyalty, they deserve the best

Woe to my confidence

For he was nimble and weak

And did not stand a chance against the monsters inside me

Ode to the outstretched hands that tightly grasp me

And pull me deeper into darkness

Until it surrounds me completely

Goodbye my dear soul,

For you, I have set free

I believe everyone is affected by a mental illness to some degree. The key is to recognize it and learn to deal with it.
