Lungs: A Poem

Updated on February 13, 2014
Source

One breath of you and I was gone,

I died that day and became another creature,

The metamorphosis was complete,

Your beautiful heart, my favorite feature,

I never knew true life until I saw you,

Only shallow breaths of yearning,

And then you cut me off from your oxygen,

My lungs rendered dry from the burning,

I died twice from your vibrant life,

When I first breathed you in, I let go of my desires,

But then you left, acute pain bursting my lungs,

Dismal gray, burnt from the flames of your fleeting fires.

Wonderful and awesome ! What happens when we exchange hearts, in fact, everything ; sometimes our own essence. When this exchange is perfect and reaches the pinnacle, oneness springs forth and we lose our very self for the sake of other dear self. Isn't this love ? This may be a wonderful feeling only if we are together, otherwise it is very painful as has been beautifully pointed out in this very fine piece. Ebower, you have crafted a lovely and excellent poem.

AudreyHowitt: Thank you! I enjoyed writing this. I think writing on a mixture of life and death compared to love and loss is one of my favorite themes to write about.

Just Ask Susan: Thanks so much!

I was going to say the exact same thing as what Audrey said. Wow is right!
