Magicians of the Forest

Updated on June 24, 2017

White tails flicking, then a salute, as they run away,

As in a fantasy, these beautiful ones, all on display.

Brown suited and agile, as these so majestic, reveal,

Poetic forms, regal in attire, as each to stand so still.

Swiftly they lope through wooded lots, moving quietly

Brilliant camouflaged disappearing acts, do incredibly

While in Fall bucks are beguiled by does that they see

Get a bit clumsy and not careful, love struck as can be

Are nocturnal, they are all more active at nighttime,

Feeding in fields and dales under the moon's light.

Ghostly figures dancing in the shadows, these deer,

Lucky, those getting to see such a spellbinding sight.

Nothing more heart warming, a mother doe and fawn,

The babe to disappear in the shadows, there all along.

Their sense of smell and hearing are their greatest gift,

Often seen in herds grazing in shades, our spirits to lift.

Magicians of the forest, appear, disappear as if by magic,

Wild deer, their most glossy coats of browns and whites.

Casting spells of beauty and mystic, of wonders to excel,

Having the envy of everyone to watch them in their flights.

Precious creatures to behold and such a wonderful delight,

A benevolent gift to the woodlands, each magnificent sprite.

God in his celestial heights knew what lives all to so endow,

More worthy of value than any gold, to each of us, did allow.

Beautiful homage to your wildlife. There was a magical, mystical feel I experienced as I entered into your poem. You are lucky to live so close to nature, whonu.
