Many of My Days

Updated on December 16, 2014

It happened again today

when you come at me

with your attacks and snide comments

I could feel the tears

come to my eyes

nearly to spill

but I held them in.

It has been

many a months

over 16 years

since I first

came to learn

how you turn on a dime

to point and blame

always trying to make it

someone else’s fault.

What you did

yelling and fussing

making up a reason

to try to make me feel

so you can feel strong.

made those familiar tears

came to my eyes

nearly to spill

but I held them in.

Circumstances could be

very well beyond my control

a twist of fate

a bump in the road

that many will face

you are not the only one.

Yet somehow you find

a way to make it my burden

as if I would ever owe.

It is easy

to boss and bait

jab and ring

demand with a loud voice

that you are Queen of the World.

What is hard

is to always do your part

take responsibility

figure something out on your own

carve a way

out of nothing.

I can see

as I know you can too

how much you need me

to shut up

not speak my mind

do as I am told

to make up

for lost time.

One day soon

I will rise above

and the tears

will flow free

as I walk right out that door.

Perfectly said. And walking is the best thing...

This is a well written poem and very much what one experiences in a confusing relationship. It is so touching.

Very touching, I have been there, but my tears did not flow when I walked out that door.

      Voted up, UABI and shared.

      Blessings and Merry Christmas

Wow, now that you have that out of your system, rise above the fray and know that tomorrow will be better. Peace my friend...

I hope that the author has not completely lost her self-worth despite the misdeed around her and eventually find the courage to set herself free.

      Nice one!

      Love from the sky~

You've described the tension of an unpleasant relationship very effectively in this poem. I could certainly feel the anger and frustration!

How soon (in your last verse)? Although, this scenario is very common in real life, which makes the mood of your poem very authentic.

I feel for your character. Certainly the most common form of abuse. I hope they walk free soon.
