Lisa is a substitute teacher who studies English Literature. She lives to write and is following her dream of becoming a professor.

You’re so lost you could fade away

Into the background of your life, just let it decay

On and on the world spins

Can’t take a moment to think, can’t begin again

Onward and upward you must go

When you slip and fall, look out below

Dangling on the edge

With a death grip on the ledge

When you look down you see

The razor sharp blades of reality

Your costume is ripped, your makeup smeared

This is what you get for pretending all these years

Like a child wearing her mother’s clothes

Pretending you had everything under control

The time to act is now, don’t delay

Why fake it another day?

Alone is better by yourself

Stop thinking about someone else

Where were they when your heart was breaking?

You thought they cared…you were mistaken

Take the hurt and turn it into strength

Who the hell cares what everyone else thinks

Life may become complicated, but at least it won’t be put on hold

You are strong you need to regain control

Take a deep breath and look deep inside

Lift yourself up and have some pride

The choice is yours, but if you stay

Nothing is ever going to change

Lisa, this is a great poem. The notion of someone coming to the end of the rope and needing to get out is very powerful. Voting up and awesome.

Hello Lisa most lovely. It's awesome to connect with you once again and I have always been fascinated by the idea of 'who or what is hiding behind the mask?'

I think you are capturing that theme here with your evocative and poetic words.

Sending you sincere warm wishes and good karma from Colin and his cats, Tiffy and Gabriel , at lake erie time ontario canada 2:40pm and I am just about to post a haunting piece called My violin soars like the eagle above
