Max My Boy- Poem by Rebecca Wood

Updated on January 23, 2012

In Loving Memory of Max

I just lost my most loyal companion to cancer October 17th, 2011. This poem was not written just for myself, but for all that has fallen in love with this very dog, Max. He has been in over half of my life. This is the least I could do for him.

The sun did not shine today

Just as the sky, my eyes went gray

Tears rolled down my face, as so did the rain

Almost as if I was not the only one feeling pain

The tears I cry are for more than just a pet

They are for the sweetest dog I have ever met

He had fur so blonde, it was almost white

His big brown eyes made you believe in love at first sight

I remember how funny he was as a pup

And I remember how fast he grew up

He was my protector, companion, and best friend

But I know I will see him agian

I'll be sure to bring him a squeeky toy

To bring back the laughter and joy

But until then, I will miss you, and I love you

Max, my boy

Leni Sands, I am truely sorry for your loss, and I love how you care for animals.

I lost my dog some years ago (when I was in my teens) and I can still relate to the feelings of loss expressed here. As Zabbella says, a 'beautiful tribute'.

I have had animals all my life and when they pass away it breaks my heart.

I used to take in pensioner cats - (cats whose elderly owner had passed away - they were older cats and it broke my heart everytime they passed away.

My current cat Max - who was described to me as 'perpetual kitten',is a rescue cat and began life being treated horrendously. With lots of TLC he has grown from being damaged into a wonderful companion, though very reliant. He is now 12 years old, I dread the day he will be no longer with me.

Thank you for sharing your poem.

Beautiful tribute. I'm sorry for your loss. I feel your sadness, because I lost a great companion. He was a cat that was as loyal as any dog.
