May 2016 - Top 5 Must Read Romance/Erotica Novels ***NO SPOILERS***
#5 "Big, Bad Billionaire" By Saranna DeWylde
Saranna DeWylde is one of my favorite authors of all time. She writes really interesting and unique books. I'm happy she's writing a book about werewolves now. This is the first novel in the series about wealthy, arrogant, werewolf billionaires and the people they fall in love with. I recommend it if you enjoy reading paranormal romance.
Blake Woolven is the bad boy CEO of Woolven Industries, but he’s badder than the luscious, BBW Randi Rutger would’ve guessed. After Woolven took down her father’s company and devoured it like a shaking rabbit, she’s determined to get close to him and make all the Woolvens pay for destroying her father. Blake knows Randi’s agenda, but the wolf inside him will do anything to have her. Even expose the Woolven family secret. When Randi sees Blake and his brothers shed their skins beneath the moon, she’s terrified. But it’s just what she needed to bring him low—that and the silver nitrate plasma gun her father designed. With her loyalties torn, Randi must choose between avenging her father and the big bad wolf who clawed his way into her heart.
#4 "The Vampire Coalition" By J.S. Scott
One of the great things about J.S. Scott is her books come with easily affordable audio versions if you buy the books first. (It's cheaper to get the book first and then the audio rather than buying the audio just by itself.) The voice actress that she uses is amazing. I thought I wouldn't like a woman narrating a romance novel that has passages from a male's point of view, but she voices all of it perfectly. She gives me chills when she's reading.
J.S. Scott has a lot of paranormal and contemporary romance novels. They're fast-paced. She never wastes time boring you with anything and this vampire collection of novellas was no exception.
This complete boxed set of The Vampire Coalition includes:
Ethan's Mate: Ethan Hale is a vampire with a mission. Together with his three brothers and a few other unmated members, he fights with The Vampire Coalition to protect humans from fallen vampires. His life is fairly simple. If he has a problem...he solves it. If it's an evil problem...he kills it. But his
uncomplicated life is about to end when his mate unexpectedly calls him to her.
Brianna Cole is weak, her life force fading away. She thinks she is suffering from a rare form of leukemia. Little does she knows that her illness is much more complicated. She's dying because she has not united with her vampire mate and given him his soul that she has been guarding since birth.
Rory's Mate: Callie Marks never knew that when she had caught the bouquet at her best friend’s wedding…she would also meet her destiny in the same place. Rory Hale was the nicest, sweetest man she had ever met. He was also the most unattainable. Gorgeous, rich and smart, Rory would never be interested in her. He wouldn’t go for a plump, boring woman that was a chef and suffered from the rejections of her past. Who wanted a foundling that had never even known who her parents were? Little did she know…he was very interested. Unfortunately, he was also a vampire who was ruled by destiny in the mating department. His mate would not be his choice.
Rory Hale had liked Callie Marks since he had met her at his brother’s wedding. Although he couldn’t feel desire for anyone except his true mate, he and Callie had a connection. They became cautious friends and he wished he could offer her more. Underneath his confident exterior, Rory had his own insecurities, but Callie seemed to think he was special.
Nathan's Mate: Jewelry maker Sasha Taylor is from an old and aristocratic line of mages and expected to mate with a mage of the same background to secure a continuing pure line of little magic children. She would probably have complied with the old mage tradition had she not had one tiny problem with the plan. She had the mark of the vampire that she had hidden for years and was slotted to be a mate to one of the savage species of blood drinkers. Mage and vampires did not mix…so she kept the secret to herself and avoided a mating until she meets her mate, Nathan Hale…a vampire that saves her life. Nathan squashes every myth she has ever heard about vampires and she soon finds herself drawn to the very vampire she had fought so hard to avoid.
Liam's Mate: Liam Hale is a vampire healer with secrets, secrets that he has kept hidden for hundreds of years from his brothers for their own protection. He's resigned to his lot in life, to work only for the benefit of his people...until he meets mage healer Regan Taylor. Regan makes Liam want more, much more than a lonely vampire healer can ever possess.
Daric's Mate: Prince Daric Carvillius is the twelve hundred year old Prince of the Vampire Healers, the most powerful being on earth, and very accustomed to getting his own way in every situation. When one of his healers, Liam, finds his mate after an entire millennium had passed without one healer mating, Daric is hopeful that the Carvillius Curse is finally broken; the results of a mistake he made a thousand years ago finally righted, allowing healers to find their mates. The only vampire healer he doesn’t want to see mated is himself, positive that the last thing he wants is a female he has to protect in addition to babysitting his unruly lot of vampire healers. But Daric has a destiny to fulfill, and his fate crashes into his life, literally, one snowy night in Colorado when he rescues a female human, Hannah Temple, from a blizzard.
#3 "Tempting The Pirate" By Tamara Hughes
I've always enjoyed love stories about pirates. Maybe it's because of the adventure on the high sea or the fact that a woman gets trapped on a boat with a man for a long period of time. Maybe it's seeing a character being swept into a new and dangerous world or the excitement and action that goes along with it.
James and Charity's interactions with each other were entertaining and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop.
Charity Goswick thinks she is escaping an arranged marriage to a brute when she slips onto a ship unnoticed. Little does she realize that this is no honorable vessel of the King's Navy - it is a pirate ship. It's just a matter of time before she is discovered by a handsome rake of a pirate, who locks her in his cabin. And while she should be scared, her captor sparks the most unladylike feelings within her... James Lamont is on the ship for one reason, and one reason only: to track down his brother. However, his spirited little stowaway certainly affords plenty of distraction with her many (failed) attempts to escape. And each time, the unspoken - and unbidden - passion between them grows stronger. But as violence and danger mount on the high seas, Charity will have to put all of her trust in the most untrustworthy of men... the arrogant pirate who just might steal her heart.
#2 "The Marriage Contract" By Katee Robert
This book is about arranged marriages and organized crime. It's exciting and it's interesting. The characters are strong, yet you're also terrified for them.
Maybe I just haven't read a lot of romance novels with a mafia feel to them, but I found the character's choices to be unpredictable and exciting. I never knew what was going to happen minute to minute. I loved it.
Teague O'Malley hates pretty much everything associated with his family's name. And when his father orders him to marry Callista Sheridan to create a "business" alliance, Teague's ready to tell his dad exactly where he can stuff his millions. But then Teague actually meets his new fiancée, sees the bruises on her neck and the fight still left in her big blue eyes, and vows he will do everything in his power to protect her.
Everyone knows the O'Malleys have a dangerous reputation. But Callie wasn't aware just what that meant until she saw Teague, the embodiment of lethal grace and coiled power. His slightest touch sizzles through her. But the closer they get, the more trouble they're in. Because Callie's keeping a dark secret-and what Teague doesn't know could get him killed.
#1 "Alpha" By Jasinda Wilder
This book is so addicting. It's like a sexy, romantic mystery. You don't quite know who her love interest is and you're on the edge of your seat trying to figure it out. The guy is kind of terrifying (with the amount of power and money he possesses) and it's really hard to tell what he is going to do with her next.
A lot of people compare it to Fifty Shades Of Grey, but I disagree. It's so much better than that novel.
The first time it happened, it seemed like an impossible miracle. Bills were piling up, adding up to more money than I could ever make. Mom's hospital bills. My baby brother's tuition. My tuition. Rent. Electricity. All of it on my shoulders. And I had just lost my job. There was no hope, no money in my account, no work to be found. And then, just when I thought all hope was lost, I found an envelope in the mail. No return address. My name on the front, my address. Inside was a check, made out to me, in the amount of ten thousand dollars. Enough to pay the bills and leave me some left over to live on until I found a job. Enough to let me focus on classes. There was no name on the check, just "VRI Inc.," and a post office box address for somewhere in the city. No hint of identity or reason for the check or anything. No mention of repayment, interest, nothing…except a single word, on the notes line: "You." Just those three letters.
If you receive a mysterious check, for enough money to erase all your worries, would you cash it?
The next month, I received another check, again from VRI Incorporated. It too contained a single word: "belong."
A third check, the next month. This time, two words. Four letters. "To me."
The checks kept coming. The notes stopped. Ten thousand dollars, every month. A girl gets used to that, real quick. It let me pay the bills without going into debt. Let me keep my baby brother in school and Mom's hospice care paid for. How do you turn down what seems like free money, when you're desperate? You don't. I didn't.
And then, after a year, there was a knock on my door. A sleek black limousine sat on the curb in front of my house. A driver stood in front of me, and he spoke six words: "It's time to pay your debt."
Would you have gotten in?
It turns out $120,000 doesn't come free.
