Maybe Sometimes

Updated on December 7, 2015

I wonder sometimes

of how you might choose

to pass the time

what you might do

for a diversion

to avoid the life

you thought you wanted.

I imagine that maybe

some of the time

you might feel bad

for those you disappointed

by your meaningless words

and false pretenses.

Sometimes you may

feel a slight

divide between where you are

and where you could have been

who you pretend to be

and what you really are.

You might wonder

how I might be

what I am doing

and if I might miss

those slight attentions

of when you found the time

in between your life

to see about me.

It isn’t true

that I never think of you

or wonder if

you are okay.

From time to time

I do think

I should have been nicer

ended things with more of a talk

instead of just the slamming of the door.

When I am busy

living the day to day

with little thought

of anything left behind,

you make an appearance

in that funny space

between sleep and wake

not a central character

rather off to the side

within the margins

like I always was to you.

Wow, that really was a powerful statement, even though you tried to make it appear to be matter-of-fact. Nice ending.

You describe relationships and feelings very effectively, truthfornow. I enjoyed reading your poem, especially the last four lines!

I got a smile out of "off to the side within the margins." Time to give back the feeling you been given.

Wow! Your thoughts are familiar .Sometimes in between sleep and awareness we can drift into memories.

Ouch! The poem really has a gotcha ending. Bitterness like that and I bet the person thinks of the other a whole lot more than sometimes.
