Meaningless Motions (poem)

Updated on May 3, 2015

When meaningless motions were put aside

Brief entertainment for which I would pay

I felt the meaning of tears that she cried

-

The sight of her smile was my only pride

So easy to brush attention away

When meaningless motions were put aside

-

When life’s emotions traveled through the tide

So foolish was I to hear my mind say

I felt the meaning of tears that she cried

-

Ignoring fears whose shadows challenged stride

What image of dreams would their lips betray

When meaningless motions were put aside

-

But there came the day its truth to confide

Things that I ran from she tried to convey

I felt the meaning of tears that she cried

-

So dark was the hour when my lover died

Yet darker still was how far I would stray

When meaningless motions were put aside

I felt the meaning of tears that she cried
