Hello friends, Myself Himanshu Nautiyal from India, I live in Uttarakhand, which is situated in lap of Great Himalayas.

Introduction to Meditation

In my last article “Stay Awake” I spoke about the importance of awakening, In this article I am sharing you how to stay awake by using Meditation.

Meditation is one of the best practices for awakening. Meditation means sitting in a peaceful place, not to think anything only just watching and observing the things happening.

Meditation which is also known as Yoga is defined by the greatest Indian Spiritual Scientist Patanjali as “yogash chitta vritti nirodhah” that means “Yoga is the ability to direct the mind completely towards an object and maintain that direction without any distractions.”

We can understand this by understanding each word separately.

Yogash – Yoga (Meditation)

Chita - Mind

Vritti - disposition

Nirodhah - constraint, Control

Now you can say that Yoga is the way to control your mind.

What meditation do :-

Meditation recharges your body and gives your mind a break from thinking. Make it your habit to mediate every morning and evening everyday. Make it non-negotiable. It will completely transform your life. There is no aspect of your life that cannot be improved by meditation, whether it be in business, relationships, health, or developing any personal quality, such as willpower. The highest purpose of meditation, however, is to discover your Highest Self.

Watching thoughts method:

  • This method of meditation is one of the easy and simple method which anybody can do itself. In this method you have to sit in the quite place with backbone straight. with closed eyes watch the thought coming in the mind, stay calm, don’t try to judge any thought its good or bad, just let it come and then let it go without interacting it, you have to just watch and observe every thought. Don’t try to control any thought either it is positive or negative. Eventually when you will watch your thought upto 30 minutes you’ll start getting experience of thoughtless state. In this state you will feel the real ecstasy you were missing ever.

Watching breath method: -

  • This is the most powerful method of meditation, in this method after sitting comfortably in the quite place with backbone straight and closed eyes you have to pay attention to your breath. Inhale deeply and feel the breath coming inside, feel it, feel its intensity, feel it coming through the nose to the lungs, after that hold it for a while and than exhale slowly watching its intensity through your nose. Continue it for minimum fifteen minutes. This technique of meditation is also taught in vipasna meditation, which means watching. This method help to always be in present because we never breath in past or future it always happens in present, and we start to be aware of our breath. Repeating affirmation like “My mind is quite, my body is in peace, I am very happy” can make your practice more effective.

Watching Awareness method: -

  • Watching you awareness is also a type of meditation, in this type of meditation you not need to sit in any specific pose or place, but peace is still needed. You can sit in a park, in your office when alone, at you home when there is no disturbance. In this meditation you have to watch your awareness, you have to turn your attention away from thought, expectation, willing and start observing yourself what you are feeling, forget all the label associated to good or bad, you have fixed for everything Just feel it as a new born child feels. Don’t expect any experience, don’t seek anything just observe it.

Why to meditate: -

For health Purpose

Meditation makes you nicer, kinder, happier, more compassionate and empathetic, more loving and peaceful it changes your personality. it is also good for your health, It decreases anxiety, stress, tension, worry, and it lowers your blood pressure. It also improves your concentration, creativity, focus, intelligence, intuition, mental health, memory, mood, and peace of mind, meditation can be an effective way to help increase the amount of restful sleep every night.

For Successful life Purpose

Meditation allows you to understand the world more clearly. The more you watch your mind, the calmer and quieter it will become, and the more clearly you will see and perceive everything, Meditation makes you more conscious and aware of everything in the world around you

Meditation opens your mind. It gives you space and separation from your thoughts so that you aren’t so attached to them, and you don’t identify with them so much. It changes your way to think about world, You can see positive improvement in you relations, work, and other aspects of your life.

Conclusion :- Anybody can meditate, Meditation is not a concern of any religion, it only help us to understand our life and help us to improve our livings. I don't advise anybody to expect extra ordinary results right from the beginning. Start with just a couple minutes in morning and evening, and gradually increase it. If you find your mind wandering, you can change the practice to get more focused.
