Felicitations, my Dear Friend, Nellieanna

Introduction

When I first read the words, and bathed in the designs immortalised on Hub Pages by Nellieanna, I was fascinated by their beauty and charm. For the first time, I was able to say to myself: “Here is a poet who is not only exquisite, aesthetic and ethereal, but also writes with a clarity and purpose, that can only come from an effulgence of Light, of Divine beauty.”

In that sense, I felt that she was quite similar to me, indeed, perhaps the first that I had come across so far, and so I felt enthralled and proud to be reading her work-- words of such beauty, eloquence and loftiness, that they made my Heart sing with Joy. Here are two excerpts of Nellieanna’s writings:

Her Poetry

The Way

Tao
Twist a rainbow
'Round the day
And that is where I'll be.
Drop a moonbeam
In a stream ~
It will not seek the sea.
But - drain it dry,
To bring it near~
The moon, the stream
Will disappear. –Nellieanna Hay, 1973.

Life is Change

If there is no change - then, no life.
Clinging to it or skirting around it

trying to hold onto the past or fix the future
loses it. – Nellieanna Hay

Just Who is Nellieanna?

Nellieanna Holdeman Hay, was born on the 2nd February, 1932. The daughter of Albert and Elsie Holdeman, she was the youngest of a total of four siblings, the others being sisters Ruth and Harriet and Brother Harold. She has two lovely children, Steve and Dyane, who themselves have children and has given Nellieanna grandchildren and great-grands as well.

As a child she loved Art, and followed her mother, an excellent artist, as she painted from real-life scenery. So in a way, we can say that the artiste and painter in the young girl, was already in the making, at quite a tender age.

Nellita describes herself as an ageless multi-faceted woman, an ‘artist of life’ who loves to write about it. I was looking at the qualities of one of the zodiac sign on her most precious website, and some of them seem to fit her so well! One full of charm and magnetism, fearlessness, diligence in all things, resourcefulness and of course a sharp mental and spiritual application to the joys of living.

I would add goodness, empathy and soulful service. Nellieanna has commended so many poets here on Hub Pages, and indeed gave them credit, including myself, on her Profile, highlighting our prose or dedication to her, with sweetness and with Love.

Nellieanna and George

Nellieanna has written roughly 244 Hubs, but has 872 followers, a tribute to her Art both in design and eloquent words, as well as her innate beauty, and peerless Heart. She had the honour of being voted Poet of The Year by members on Hub Pages, in 2013. Alas! Our dear friend has since suffered from Carpel-Tunnel Syndrome with her hands and fingers being restricted. So sadly we don’t see too much of her work.

Nevertheless, she is still busy on other social media, and indeed with her own ranch, living up to the luminary Sri Chinmoy’s adage that ‘old age is a new page.’

Nellieanna was married to and lived with her loving husband George Hay, who sadly ‘took flight’ as she puts it, ‘to continue his timeless journey’ on September 5th, 2008. He was, by all accounts, a truly wonderful man. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Navy in the South Pacific, including Iwo Jima. He was a graduate of Texas Tech, with a degree in Industrial Engineering, and retired from the City of Dallas Water Department, in 1987.

George and Nellieanna met at a Company she worked for. He was an Industrial Engineer and they liked each other instantly. An accomplished writer, poet, designer, music lover, painter, teacher and artiste, Nellita grew up in Terrell County, Texas. She still runs a Farm called The Flying Dutchman Ranch, almost singlehandedly, I might add, and she has also worked as Sales Director, for Mary Kay Cosmetics, and Assistant Director for Morgan Building Systems.

Nellieanna's America

Nellieanna loves her country, and here – in her own words - I would allow this great passion and admiration, to speak for itself:

“America! My beloved country! My forebears came here before it was an independent country, to find respite from difficulties back in the countries from which they migrated and then were ready to build on their new lives here. In Dad’s case they were fleeing religious persecution and hoping to establish sanctuary to worship and live accordingly. In Mother’s case, they were seeking more opportunity, both to practice their beliefs and to expand their horizons.

They were courageous, hard-working and determined. Some of Mother’s forebears fought in the Revolution for the U.S.A.’s Independence. Dad’s people’s religion forbade taking up arms, so they contributed in other ways.

Of course, my own experience of this great country began decades, nearly two centuries later after my parents had gone forth in this land to follow their own dreams, to establish their own independence and to settle in a place to call their own and to rear their family of my three elder siblings and the unexpected fourth one - me! We were all encouraged to learn and were able to get good educations, without outside hindrance, as happens in some other places.

All in all, what I love most about America is the freedom to choose, to reach one’s personal goals and the privilege to take part in choosing the leaders of the country. I’m passionate about preserving and protecting the freedoms for all its people, freedoms on which America was built and flourishes, so that future generations can continue to enjoy all the opportunities and freedoms here. America IS its people, essentially.”

Schooling and poetry

Nellieanna went to the University of Austin, Texas, and studied at Southern Methodist University, obtaining her BS in Home Economics, Art/Fashion Design, Junior/Senior - Graduate - BS degree. She also went to Abilene Christian University, Home Economics and Freshman/Sophomore. She still has a fondness for music, and this song by Jerome Kerns, is one of her favourites, if not the best:

The lovely intro:

Time and again I've longed for adventure,
something to make my heart beat the faster.
What did I long for?
I never really knew.
Finding your love, I've found my adventure.
Touching your hand, my heart beats the faster.
All that I want . . . in all of this world is . . . you. . .

The haunting verse:

You are. . .
The promised breath of springtime. . .
That makes the lonely winter seem long.
You are. . .
The breathless hush of evening. . .
That lingers on the brink of a lovely song.

You are the angel glow
That lights a star.
The sweetest things I know
Are what you are.

Someday. . .
My happy arms will hold you. . .
And someday. . .
I'll know that moment divine. . .

When all the things you are . . . are mine!

- My song. My destiny. - Jerome Kerns

Nellieanna’s OASIS at nellieanna.com is a breath-taking spectacle, as well as a celebratory journey. It expresses her moods, moments, relationships, enchanting scenery, family history and intimacy … it is rather like an autobiographical choreography of her movements in time and spaces, accommodating the dance and pageantry of life’s sojourn … so far. In fact, this website is like Love – ever elusive; peerless; impossible to describe -- a visit is imperative to capture the essence or Soul of what Nellita has done and is continuing to do.

Nellita has a keen sense of all things elegant, passionate and eloquent, and is a fan of the great Ballerina Plisetskaya, movie heart-throbs Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn as well as Doris Day, Julie Andrews and André Léon Marie Nicolas Rieu, the Master Dutch violinist and conductor, best known for creating the waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra. Nellita loved music and also played an antique piano.

When it comes to commenting on the Hubs of her Hub Pages Friends, Nellieanna writes with much care, eloquence and empathy, taking her time to ensure that her words are guided by love and pleasantries, as well as to make us feel good about ourselves.

I believe that Nellieanna Holdeman Hay is definitely a solid treasure, not only here on Earth amongst her friends, well-wishers and admirers, but as a servant and instrument of the Supreme. Hari Om! Long may you live in our Hearts, and in the Lap of the Most High Sovereign of Perennial Love Supreme.

“Serenity
Is my adornment,
The gift of years.
I envy not
The blank of innocence.

I am become a woman
Painfully;
There's no debt against it.

The calm water
Shows no sign of strife
From its past storms.” – Nellieanna Hay.

My dear Manatita ~ Oh, my. You've created such a wonderful hub for me! It's like reading my biography, penned by someone who truly cares for and values me! I'm nearly tongue-tied! Thank you, thank you. Now I need to try to live up to all of it! Life continues to be a wonderful challenge!

I love this: "the luminary Sri Chinmoy’s adage that ‘old age is a new page'," and I thank you for introducing me to him via one of his books. He was someone with clear vision, for sure. I felt a kinship and understanding of your dedication to his teachings.

Thank you and love, my friend.

'swelled head.' Funny. I just read Michael's tribute and the wonderful comments from other hubbers. So you, so heartfelt; so touching!

Thank you for your loving approach to Sri Chinmoy. Means a lot to me. I was indeed blessed. In fact I started in Christianity long before meeting him. I guess my Path was mapped out in another life. (we believe in re-incarnation)

So happy you graced my page. There are others here who will also read this and not comment for different reasons, but I'm happy that I had your blessings and was able to share. Thank you so much!!

      Hi Linda,

Are you the 'Lea that Bill speaks off? Just noticed your comments. Bill speaking of you as such is commendable and praise-worthy indeed. Thank you for your contribution here to my Nellieanna. Appreciations.

Dear Manatita, I'm glad you appreciated Michael's tribute. He's quite dear to me.

I have found Sri Chinmoy's combination of spirituality, great good sense and lack of pretentiousness so refreshing.

I thought it could be the other 'Lea' that Bill spoke of, but it must be you. It would make perfect sense to me. Everything fits. What's with your new look? Really 'cool!'

Thank you so much and no, Bill is not wrong. You're a wonderful Soul!

      Gratitude, Nellieanna.

I could not see Emily Dickinson saying anything different. Again, you have contributed much in your own right. In answer to comparing my Guruji to someone else, he responded that he wanted to be God's Chinmoy. Such a sweet answer.

So while you may have played other roles before, now you are our charming Nellieanna.

Yes, Guruji's words are an ocean of Light. Every one of his 1600 books. Much Love.

Thank you for asking. I'm not around as much lately, hardly at all it seems. Been busy! Remodeling our home and we have only a couple months left to finish it all. And I'm trying to get my health in check before I end up having a stroke or something, no joke. Quite scary at times, yet I suppose it could be much worse. All in all, I guess I'm better than I used to be in many aspects and my state of mind says I'm still in my young 20s and invincible! I just need my body to believe that. LOL.

I hope that you are enjoyingNY this year. Safe travels!

Not sure this is the best place to discuss herbal treatments, so you can delete this if you want. . .but you piqued my curiosity. Blood work showed I am Vitamin D deficient so I do take that. Vitamin B might help improve my energy levels. And the Dr told me to take a ton of fish oil. (Yuck! I never liked fish much). I may not be as young as I used to be, but I'm too young for sky high, stroke-inducing blood pressure numbers and high cholesterol. So the fish oil is supposed to help with the cholesterol, but I can't take the medication she prescribed because it made me terribly ill. Felt like a bad case of food poisoning each time I tried taking it. The other one isn't covered by the insurance and I can't afford it. So I'm looking for natural ways to try to fix this and to see if I can find a common thread between the symptoms so that I can address that and hopefully see some of the other problems fix themselves without medication. So, anyway. .. .I was looking up triphala to see if it might address any of that and it seems to be used for digestive issues, correct? Does it help with circulation or anything that would help lower my blood pressure? I can assume that's why my energy levels have plummeted. And I can sure tell when it's that high.
