Memories at Christmas

Updated on February 28, 2015

The sky colored a steely gray

Bringing no brightness

That I could see

The Christmas tree

Sparkling and bright

Bringing colors into my life

And the slivery gleaming threads

Of the shimmering tinsel

Reflect many colors

Reminding me of silvery white tears

And with each teardrop

As they shimmer and turn about

One by one I see

The faces appearing

Of those dear ones

Who are not with me

And though it brings some sadness

There is also gladness

That they are here with me

And as I look up toward the sky

Full of stars twinkling above

I can count the smiles

They’ve left behind

Filling my mind full of

Precious memories

Like bright diamonds in my heart

To be with them

Though they are far from reach

Brings the magic of Christmas is

Filling my home with love and happiness

Knowing that they are near

Christmas is a time we remember previous get-togethers with family no longer here & I understand totally what you mean here - sadness mixed with a warm glow thinking of our departed loved ones.

Love the idea of the twinkling lights representing tears and then the shining spirits coming back to us. Your poetry gives us a warm feeling of peace and memories at this family time. Lovely!

Happy New Year to you and yours! Ann

Rasma you have touched the heart with this beautiful poem. Each one of us has memories and tears for those who are no longer with us, and Christmas is a time to truly remember them and hopefully glory in what they have added to our lives.

      Voted up, awesome and beautiful.

The holidays can be a difficult time. I know they leave me feeling lonely and somewhat disappointed in mankind - just the opposite of what they're 'supposed' to do!

i love your take on the season, Rasma. Turn tears and tinsel into diamonds and feel your loved ones surround you - in any form!

      Beautiful...

      Merry Christmas dear..

Beautiful tribute to your loved ones that are now watching over you from heaven. I too think about all those I have lost during the Christmas season. The memories are bittersweet. Hope you had a blessed Christmas my friend.

Glad to see that none of the tragedies of 2013 touched you personally, and that Christmas glows inwardly, lighting the way to 2014. A recent piece of mine also mentioned "tears" though my mention was of "icicle tears."
