Memory: A Poem

Updated on December 10, 2015

I thought of you today
Of course that's nothing new
You cross my mind a thousand times
Way more than just a few

I came across old pictures
From our day up by the lake
Back when we talked for hours
Of all our past mistakes

I cried for you today
Realizing that you're gone
Tears of joy and sorrow
For all that we did wrong

I wonder how you're doing
Since we said goodbye
And if your choices make you happy
Living with such a lie

Bittersweet our ending
We know that much is true
I cannot keep defending
The reasons for something new

So I will keep my distance
I'm sorry I hurt you too
But I cannot keep pretending
I do not love you too
