Middle Ground

Middle Ground

Middle Ground

Come take a walk with me

On the sunny side of the street

You say their so damm happy

You say there’s gold beneath their feet

Be careful what you wish for

Cause they often do come true

And you may not like the path that lies

Beneath someone else’s shoe

The brightest sunshine has darkness to hide

And every cloud has a silver side

Nothing’s ever quite as it seems

As our mind wanders to the extremes

We see the surface, but look around

Reality lies in the middle ground

Ramona found the golden path

She’s in the mansion up on the hill

She had a simple happy life

But now he foots the bill

She’s caught in a loveless marriage

Yea, she sports a smile upon her face

You see, the chemicals dull the pain inside

Her shattered pieces are all out of place.

The brightest sunshine has darkness to hide

And every cloud has a silver side

Nothing’s ever quite as it seems

As our mind wanders to the extremes

We see the surface, but look around

Reality lies in the middle ground

Ben woke up this morning at half past three

Sweat dripping from his face

Pressure of life, a runaway train

No doubt he was losing the race

As the sun burst upon the morning

Ben perched as a bird on its bed

He had vigor and hope for a bright new day

The pressure had drained from his head

People covet which they don’t possess

And rarely cherish which they do

Just look across from the mirror

Your happiness lies within you.

Mickey was the life of the party

Drew a crowd to hear him joke

The friends who knew his deep dark side

Sadly peered through the veiled smoke

As the cancer ravage his body

Mickey turned within

There stood a misguided ugly person

And his peril frightened him

You see, Mickey treated strangers

As if they were his friends

While the ones who really mattered

He hurt until the end

Mickey laid on his final bed

His true friends gathered round

T’was then that Mickey realized

As they put him in the ground

The brightest sunshine has darkness to hide

And every cloud has a silver side

Nothing’s ever quite as it seems

As our mind wanders to the extremes

We see the surface, but look around

Reality lies in the middle ground

Gilio Gillis lives on the street

Was a high powered broker they say

Traded his suit for a torn pair of jeans

The food comes day by day

He plays his music, and is loved by his fans

Wakes up with a smile on his face

I throw him some change, envy his pride

And realize he’s found his place.

The brightest sunshine has darkness to hide

And every cloud has a silver side

Nothing’s ever quite as it seems

As our mind wanders to the extremes

We see the surface, but look around

Reality lies in the middle ground.

We see the surface, but look around

Reality lies in the middle ground.
