Milky Way, Galaxy of Light
Milky Way...from the Greek...the "Milky Circle"...you spin about on high,
Our home here on earth...of this whirling dervish, so glorious, in the sky.
Disc-shaped structure, of galactic stars, to be a hundred light years wide,
As we, on our blue planet, in orbit of the sun, do manage quite well to hide.
At your center, your core...a darkness found there...a black hole, is its name.
As a trillion stars circle and swirl...in incessant revolutions, none the same.
Grandest subject of the astronomers...thought to be as one, and all alone,
Until proven by Hubble...no single galaxy, among the many, came to be known.
While planets and their moons, encircle their stars, each solar system to prevail,
All fill the galaxies in a brilliance, to glow, and shine, as we lift the Milky Way's veil.
Galaxies to infinity...majestic universes, their numbers beyond all comprehension,
As human kind takes a first step on its moon...their very conquest, is our intention.
The human mind...as a resource, an individual universe... unlimited in its own way,
We shall rely on our pluck with each try...none to deny, as we fly to the stars and play.
As a tiny grain of sand, on a tropical beach, so grand, we're all right here to stay,
But a nice vacation, in a visit to the stars, to increase our knowledge, along the way.
