Mind Over Matter ( a poem of greatest inspiration)

Updated on July 5, 2016

A criterion of truth, not that of the sensual, but as intellectual and the deductive,

Truth, after all, a measure that we seek, in most every quarter, to be productive.

Mankind's greatest downfall, often a question of greed, or that most seductive,

As greater amounts of time, spent on self-gratification, promotes the destructive.

Why reach for the sky when what you need is with in your grasp...
Why reach for the sky when what you need is with in your grasp...

Might our minds win out over pain, ours only to give a try, it as a new perspective,

Could we control sickness or poor health, as one has to be a little introspective?

Would our most positive thoughts influence our own well being...proof in seeing,

Just taking a new outlook on our lives, one less negative, as friends, all agreeing.

Taking a new outlook on life...
Taking a new outlook on life...

Should we decide to explore deepest space, certain possibility, as argumentative,

Using precepts of mind over matter to afford us each travel, thoughts proliferative.

As a dream-time world of imaginative events, minds to expand, as regenerative.

Breaking all barriers, removing blocking thoughts, eradicating those, retrogressive.

Might we travel using our minds...
Might we travel using our minds...

Yes, the human spirit does far overwhelm the shadows, all put upon us sometimes,

The inner light shining within us, helping us to achieve, as hope to heaven climbs!

The mind reigns supreme over matter, that special manifestation we all hold inside,

Senses...hearing, sight, touch, smell, and taste, of our minds, there each to abide.

Our minds, as brightest spirits we all hold within us...
Our minds, as brightest spirits we all hold within us...

Our mind, its computerized functions, programmed by our genetics, our own hand,

Abilities well understated, achievements, beyond realms of genius, to understand.

Matter, that substance manipulated, formed as the mind, creation, its end result,

The earth, its bowels, fashioned of all matter, artistry, of our god, it does consult.

Right on time -- it is early morning and for some darned reason I let my mind go into a state of changing all into the negative. Powerfully destructive. You set me back into a positive space -- thanks.

Helen Keller, F.D.Roosevelt, Churchill, Edison, Bell, Einstein, all overcame great disabilities, some earlier in life to become wonderful examples of how great the human spirit can be and were joined by many in past times of the world in showing that a disability does not mean that you can't achieve great things. Thank you so much for your nice commentary my friend. whonu

The mind can be so powerful, but one must be determined. When I think of a powerful mind, I think of Winston Churchill and how he led a productive and good life and changed the world despite his mental illness. I wonder if minds are born with that potential or created that way and we just didn't pursue it further. Wonderful poem.

Our minds may defeat pain and all things reprehensible. Our minds are a source that will forever be mined, as a new gold and never to be completely understood. Thank you my friend. whonu
