Moments

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Fleeting moments,

like wistful memories,

each a single stroke of colour

on the canvas of our lives.

Seemingly insignificant,

but rich in texture and intensity

guiding the brush to imbue intent,

and meaning into our masterpiece.

We judge with totality the finished work,

but it is those tiny dabs of colour

as individual as they are,

that determine worth.

Moments are the breath of life,

each one carrying the potential of thought and action,

each one the opportunity of expression,

of love, of kindness or the denial of life.

Each moment is a choice,

of happiness, of sadness, of solitude or sharing,

uninhibited by a world at arms length,

outside our experience of the moment.

There is no past, no future,

simply this moment to be as we will,

to colour our canvas,

with beauty, with grace, with understanding.

A moment can transform,

free that spark of love,

nurture an epiphany,

or foster discovery.

In the moment,

we find ourselves,

make decisions,

realise our dreams

and paint beautiful lives.

Moments are all we have.

Make them count.

Lovely poem and the sentiments take me back to Huxley's Island and the talking bird: "Here and now, boys, here and now."

      Best, Sem

Moments well spent... reading your works, Tony. I am becoming a fan, quickly. I have some similar writings on color and canvas having to do with our lives, tucked away somewhere. Reading this put a smile on my face. What i find amazing about the experiences in life.. is that each, in its own regard, is deemed 'good or bad'.. a painful experience could be as a disliked color of paint. But, when we look at a masterpiece finished on canvas.. we don't analyze each color separately into "i don't like this color" or "i love this color!".. as we would if we viewed the colors individually. In the present moment.. all we have.. if i can be freed from seeing the pain of the past, as individual 'colors' which i loathe.. and see it in the masterpiece behind me.. how free, then, am i to live.. the moment i exist in, right now, in appreciation of the masterpieces being made. (woah, is this called rambling? i didnt mean to write a book on your comments!) - Kimberley
