Moon's Salute

Updated on May 7, 2017

Moon's beams are dancing on the bay,

Scattered clouds, wispy, and all to play.

Jasmine's smell, the Honeysuckle, too,

So lifts that spell, of this, my feeling blue.

Nightbirds sing to the evening a lullaby,

Frogs and crickets chat, all join the show.

This magic spell is cast, till night is past,

As shadows line a landscape, to and fro.

Memories flow through time, in the hour,

Good times of the past, on me to shower.

Sweet nights, essences, of days gone by,

Reflect the speed, the rate, it does so fly.

As a Whippoorwill and goslings, all do call,

Their silhouettes against the curtain to fall.

My old pipe to light, just for one last time,

While beauty awaits for those all in rhyme.

This poem reminds me that I've not actually watched the night sky in quite some time. Guess I go to bed too early!

Very lyrical and full of imagery. Wistful, nostalgic tone reminds me vaguely of The Land of Lost Content by Housman.

      Enjoyed reading.
