Most Precious Gift

Updated on April 15, 2016

Precious Gift

When you're surrounded by lies

It gets hard at times

To know what to think, to know what to feel

Or to know what to perceive as real

The mind games played on you

Sometimes leave you so confused

I'm so sorry I shared all of that with you

Even though saying it out to someone else helped me sort it through

Your being there gave me something to hang onto

Another light in the dark when lies hid the truth

Thank you for being there in the background

As I began sorting it all out

But you made it clear your love is in my past

So I'm packing it up and sending it all back

I can't keep it in my present

Because the feelings attached just won't relent

Even though I'll always care, that's just how it will be

Knowing you in the present tense is not up to me

Now they're tucked in my heart to stay

And you too can have them to keep or to throw away

The Looking Glass

There are moments in time

Forever ingrained in my mind

It's a looking glass

Straight into the past

But in the reflection it sees

Only the best in those memories

Something to Count On

How do you tell a heart not to care?

If it is real, it just is always there

No matter how far apart the point of view is

Until both want to reach out and forgive

"I love you" is a promise I cannot take back

Even as joy fills the broken cracks

The remain inside my mended heart

It's never too late for a new friendship to start

Once a friend to me

As long as you want, a friend you'll always be

So if you find one day

There is no pain, anger, or reservations in the way

So long as I am able to be in touch

I will reply, you can count on as much

Shanmarie....My first read of the day & a good choice I must say. These private thoughts that live within, often sneak to the surface against our will. There's reason for this, I'm sure you know.

We just aren't meant to hold some secrets~~they aren't allowed to torture us. So just as you have in this touching Poem, we release them into the Universe. We can watch them take wing til they're out of sight & wait for the echo of comforting words, filtered, cleansed & new.

Have a wonderful day. Peace, Paula

      Hi Paula,

Good to see you here. I trust you slept crumb free last night. ;) LOL

It is definitely freeing to let things out that become trapped inside for far too long. Sometimes speaking to someone else is enough to release their power over a person. I think society, in general, forgets that. I'm not about complaining about petty things just for the sake of complaining, but I thnk that when things cause emotional turmoil, it's best to let it out to some trusted someone or two or three, as the case may be. Haha. Jokes aside, we can't fix what someone else feels, but we can do wonders to help just by letting them get it out.

Some support appreciated, it looks like. We all need them. Sincere poetry,

      Dear Shan,

This is yet another beautifully penned and heartfelt poem from you. What I love so much about your poetry is that one can tell how much you search your soul for answers to this sometimes brutal and confusing world in which we live and how delicate our hearts are when it comes to those special relationships in our lives.

Thank you for sharing this powerful piece.

The video is powerful and heartrending too.

      Peace and blessings always

You're so generous with your comments and encouragement, Theresa, and I appreciate that very much. The heart is delicate when it comes to such matters, isn't it? I like Paula's statement of releasing it and waiting for the comforting echoes.

That song and video are very touching and I thought of it when I finished this poem. I've certainly felt that way a time or two.

Truthfully, I wouldn't be alive today if not for the support of true friends. Now my job is to pass that friendship on to others.

      I love your poetic reflections.

Aww, thanks, Bill. I am glad you enjoy my "poetic reflections". I hope I can pass that kind of friendship on to others as well. :)
