Mother and child quotes

Updated on May 10, 2015

Two quotes describing her!

Here are two quotes that make it clear what a mother is and what her importance in her child's life is:

A little girl, asked where her home was, replied, "where mother is."

I have never seen anyone so protective and caring as a mother! Be it in humans or animals, it is the mother who guards her children from all sorts of harm from the environment. The best thing about all this is that she does it willingly and selflessly. Give and take is not something that a mother knows when it comes to her child. Although fathers equally love their children, they are not so possessive or at least expressive when it comes to showing their love. Moms tend to get sentimental! Maybe this quote from Aristotle answers why mothers are so affectionate!

Have you noticed this?

I have personally observed this around me. A girl might throw tantrums and live life as per her own wishes before becoming a mother. But once the change happens, once she becomes a mother, she kind of gets transformed into a whole new being. No more tantrums after that. She stops being stubborn and her life starts revolving around one sole motto: Make her child happy and work for the child's better future. I do not intend to restrict my discussion to housewives since this is the era of working women. Speaking in general, a higher sense of awareness gets developed in a girl when she turns into a mother.

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.

With Motherhood come responsibilities!

As I said earlier, a mother no longer behaves as per her whims and fancies because she now has two lives to take care of! This quote by Sophia Loren is apt in that sense:

When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child. --Sophia Loren

What joy it gives when you rest your head on her lap and share all you worries, no matter how old you both are! If you just go and hug her, all your worries tend to vanish into thin air at least for the time being. That is the power of a mother's love.

The most beautiful necklace a mother can wear is not gold or gems, but her child’s arms around her neck.

"Mother’s love is bliss, is peace, it need not be acquired, it need not be deserved. If it is there, it is like a blessing; if it is not there it is as if all the beauty had gone out of life." --Erich Fromm

First of all she is the one who decides to bring you into this world! Then, she can be your caretaker when you are small, a teacher as you grow, a friend in your teenage days, an experienced advisor when you need help, and the list goes on. There is hardly any role that she cannot play with ease. But, have you ever wondered what it would be like without her? There is a saying in Marathi which says,"Even the mighty king of the three worlds is a beggar without his mother." If for a few days she goes to her maternal place, dad finds it difficult to manage everything. You might have experienced some scolding during such times. It is all because of the same.
