Motivation and Inspiration---Thank-You, Thank-You, Thank-You---This Hub is for You!!
Motivation and Inspiration
Many times writers go through a period of Writer's Block. Unfortunately and as frustrating as that can be, writers may need to find a new venue of motivation and inspiration to conquer such a block.
A few weeks ago I had asked the question what inspires and motivates you to write and had an overwhelming response within a very short period of time. I personally want to thank each and everyone that participated in answering that question! Thank-you!
I had also asked if I could quote some of the responses. There were a few that gave me their permission to quote them in this hub and I want to share that with you as well as share what I find both inspirational and motivational.
I hope this Hub will show you ways others become inspired as well as share with you a few tips that might help motivate and inspire!
Motivation and Inspiration
There are many ways to find both motivation and inspiration. I personally draw my inspiration from my environment as well as from other Hubbers that are mentioned later in this Hub!
Here are some tips to help you become motivated and inspired.
- Carry a Notebook, Pencil, and even a Camera at all times
I don't mean a netbook or laptop although that may help some. Inspiration can come from anywhere. When you see something that may be inspirational or motivational, take notes without looking at the paper. If you are able and don't come across as creepy, take a picture.
Reason I am stating this is that your initial reaction will come through on the paper. When you look back through your notes as well as the picture, look carefully at your handwriting--was it neat, or rather rushed and nervous, perhaps even skittish and scared. This can give you perhaps a subconscious feel of what you saw.
- Set Goals
This may seem as strange way to find motivation or inspiration but it can help you.
For instance, the picture at the beginning of this Hub is from Disney World. My family and I were fortunately treated to Disney World in 2009 thanks to my mother-in-law who had just come back from her 2nd deployment as well as other family who contributed a little extra for spending money. I have to say it was the most magical place I have ever been. I was in complete awe.
How does this motivate and inspire me? The pictures we took are inspiration in itself, however the real inspiration and motivation is that we want to go back as soon as financially possible. By setting this goal, I am very motivated to do my best to help that goal happen.
- Think about what you love to write about, then look for pictures on the internet and/or in family albums
For example, perhaps you like writing about dogs. If you don't have a dog that you can draw inspiration from, look at pictures and videos of dogs on the internet. Or perhaps you had a dog as a pet when you were a child, look at those pictures through family albums and draw inspiration from those. This will help you to feel motivated to write.
- Read a book from your favorite author
Again, this may seem a strange way to draw inspiration and motivation. However, one of my favorite writers is J.R.R Tolkien and others that I favor are Edgar Allen Poe, Dr. Seuss, Shakespeare, as well as Homer. This may not seem like a surprise to some that have read some of my writing samples, however, just reading a few pages allows me to draw on the energy of their writing.
Reading what you like can also help you incorporate some of the voice of those that you admire. At the same time can help you find a voice that is unique to you.
One exercise you may want to try is to take a paragraph from a book of one that you may admire, and then completely re-write that paragraph that is unique to you. Continue re-writing that same paragraph until it becomes an entity of its own.
- Listen to Music
Again, this may seem odd, but listen to the genre of music that you find inspirational. For me, I listen to many, many different types of music. When I am writing poetry, to list a few, I may listen to John Lennon's Imagine along with a few Beatles songs, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, U2, Eric Clapton, Metallica, Counting Crows, Beethoven, Bach, John Williams etc. Whatever type of music that fits the mood that I am in and I draw their energy into what I write.
Listen carefully to the Lyrics and perhaps look up the Lyrics on the internet so that you can be inspired and motivated by the spoken words. Take notes on how the music makes you feel.
- Watch a Movie or a Show
Watch a movie or a show that helps you become inspired for the genre you want to write about. For example, if you love to write about romance, watch a romantic movie and draw your inspiration from there.
If you like to write about cooking, than watch a cooking show to help inspire and motivate you to write.
- Read other Hubbers!!!! Please continue to read this Hub to the end...you will see those that I draw inspiration from!!
Hubs are a great way to draw inspiration, encouragement, motivation as well as so much more! Read those that inspire and motivate you!!
There are many ways that you can become inspired and motivated. The key thing is when you are dealing with Writer's Block, no matter what, do NOT stop writing. You do not have to write a masterpiece, just don't give up on yourself this too will pass. Never give up on dreams or goals!!!
What Inspires and Motivates Fellow Hubbers
In alphabetical order, below are the quoted responses from those that were kind enough to give permission!! A special Thank-you to Born2Care2001, Rod Marsden, and SidKemp!
Almost anything inspires me to write but generally I am most inspired by genuine acts of kindness, the awesomeness of nature and the demonstration of love. What motivates me is entirely different. I'm motivated to do what I love most and often that entails expressing my inner thoughts and feelings. When I see them on paper it's as if something unreal became real, it manifested and creation is so motivating. Egotistically, one other thing motivates me. Since I have no biological children, I have a strong desire to leave a legacy through words, spoken or written. Whether I accomplish this is immaterial. The legacy is trying!
Getting the truth out there is sometimes a motive. I have also various books out there that deal with the truth in various ways. I get angry when people I know and care about are badly represented and/or lies are being told about them.
The simplest answer is that I love to help people live in peace and love and create success.
As a vision, I see writing as a tide that flows - the state of the world flows into me as I live and connect, and a deep light of Spirit and Soul sends a flood of good stuff back out in reply!
THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU--This Hub is for You
