Multifaceted

Updated on June 10, 2017

Every mind, that of the human race,

Each more precious and endowed.

Like polished diamonds, multifaceted,

Only this to be discovered if allowed.

In the course of most human events,

New geniuses are often discovered.

Never to be revealed by their faces,

Each work of art may be so covered.

Gold by any name may well be found,

Not in a stream or holes in the ground.

When is just given one chance to shine,

Unveiled and presented to be as divine.

Every mother's child is a likely candidate,

When praised and extolled, to perpetuate.

Self-esteem, the respecting of one's self,

Best when shared with all, not on a shelf.

Children in school to learn each rule,

And to follow them as best they can.

Everyone is an unpolished gemstone,

Try being patient, meet each demand.

Some so gifted and hidden deep inside,

May expose the richness, there to abide.

Given a little prompting, reveals a sheen,

Attention works wonders, now is pristine.

Diamonds in the rough, await our every turn,

May be unearthed, to shine, each must earn.

Beauty is not skin deep, is what's held inside,

Can be shared with the world, ours to decide.

As a teacher of the disadvantaged and emotionally disturbed children, I have discovered this truth over time. I do hope I helped reveal many diamonds over the years.

Thank you for helping disadvantaged and emotionally disturbed children in your capacity as a teacher. Your poem is a good one! All children of every background should be encouraged to discover their own talents and shine.

A teacher can bring out the best in children and help them to shine in what they do best. Great poem.

A diamond indeed with many hidden hues brought to sparkle in the sunlight.
