My Friend Yesterday

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I now live in Daytona Beach, Florida with my wonderful cat Sid.

Yesterday come take my hand

and lead me through the years.

Back to the past and into the present

and let me look into the future.

Show all the bridges I have crossed,

the times that meant so much,

the paths I have taken

and how I came to where I am today.

Take my hand my friend yesterday,

tell me what I’ve learned,

tell me what I have forgotten -

show me how to live now.

The seasons of childhood,

all went along with love and happiness.

The seasons that followed,

were no less filled with joy.

Times when I thought that I might cry,

I found something to hold on to,

found a way to continue on.

Yesterday you have shown me,

how to live for today.

Come take my hand

and let us stand upon a hill,

looking back across the years.

To see where there was laughter

and where there were tears.

The friends who always cared,

the days that golden memories shine,

loving the days I have now,

now that you are mine

and together we are fine.

Let me reflect upon it all,

then lead me into the today’s I’m living,

so that I can remember all that I have learned

and realize it has made me what I am today,

then lead me into tomorrow -

into a future hopefully bright.

My friend yesterday, thank you for the memories,

and letting me look toward the future -

with a bright and happy smile.

Rasma, what a wonderful perspective of yesterday! Indeed it is yesterday that has brought us to where and who we are today. I really love this poem, my friend!

Thank you Jodah. The Herman's Hermits had many songs that inspired.

Sorry about that Bill. These things happen. I could be planning my next move online and suddenly something will bring on nostalgia. Just happens.

You welcome Paula and glad you enjoyed.

      Thank you Ruby.

Aha, to look back on yesterdays and remember memories, good and bad is a pleasure, and remembering there were more good than bad is a joy. I loved this!

The older I get, the more time I spend with yesterday, and I'm not all that sure that's a good thing. LOL Now you've got me doing some serious reflection. Thanks a lot, Rasma. :)

A wonderful free verse poem, Rasma. This is a little different from you. I must say yesterday was my friend as well. Love Herman's Hermits.
