My Goodbye Letters

Updated on February 26, 2014

Anan is an online blogger and private consultant since 2009 in the areas of relationships and interfaith spirituality.

I found stashed away in a drawer, my old letters.

Some of them inspired, some of them bitter.

All with a common theme, a broken dream.

Childlike hopes and woman's desires.

The journey of a thousand steps in cheap paper.

Pure emotions and the rawness of my heart.

Not addressed to anyone, just my thoughts.

Not intended to anyone, just me falling apart.

The whole, the nothingness of yesterday.

Going through the lines of things that were.

Weeping for what couldn't been.

Letters with no addressee, no post

remind me of my past, of our love.

Reading them becomes clear, I was lost

nothing fulfilled, nothing accomplished.

Just stories of dreams, of regrets

that never got to see the light.

My goodbye letters are just that

a stash of paper, nothing more.

This is my legacy, my only pearl

as a witness that I lost your heart.

How nicely you have captured the old-fashioned romance of love letters kept and treasured through the ages.

Beautiful! You've captured the futility of lost loves and dreams, especially when reducing them to 'cheap paper'. This is a captivating poem; most of us have been there I suppose and we may feel stupid but it's one way to get it out of our system.

      Great stuff! Ann
