My Heart Hurts

Updated on July 14, 2010

My heart hurts

It is heavy with despair

for those people

Who I can't repair

My heart hurts

for the dark places

where they hide

all their lonely faces

My heart hurts

for the broken hearted

and the painful

deep and scarred

My heart hurts

for all the addicts

for they don't know

any other mix

My heart hurts

for the needy

being without

can be dark and seedy

My heart hearts

finally and last

for those who

remember their painful past

I wish my heart would hurt more like that. I remember the pain Jesus felt when he saw his flock astray, lost and confused, without a Shepherd

Lambservant: You are so right about everything you say.Thank you so much for expressing your thoughts and experiences. Looking back now God has used my compassion in many ways, but I need to learn how to give it to the Lord. I think we might be kindred spirits. God bless you

Sky, I have been reaing a lot of your hubs and I feel a real connection to you on a lot of different levels, but particularly of your compassion and empathy for the broken hearted who are suffering. You care so much, that you take on their pain as yours. Your poem here, which was very moving, and many of your hubs show that. It is a wonderful thing to be so compassionate. But guard your heart and mind from compassion fatigue. I don't mean stop feeling for other people, but find a balance, so that you are not brought low (depressed). That is not good for you or the person you are feeling for. Pastors often hear the overwhelming tragic things and they have to guard their hearts and mind so they can function. My pastor told me this just last week, and another one once told me the same thing. I often so moved by other pain that I hit the skids for several days. Praise be to God instead of taking on those burdens as our own, we can run to Jesus and lay these people and their hurts and sorrows at his feet trusting he will work in their lives. Then you can be available to offer your support and understanding without experiencing their pain to the point of bringing yourself down. This may seem insensitve to you and to other readers, but it is something I am dealing with in my life right now on the advice of my pastor and therapist. God bless you little lamb for your tender heart.

"Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matt. 11:28-30

Wow, that was a pretty heavy poem, Sky. All of our hearts should hurt now that you put it that way. Thought provoking poem to be sure. Thanks for sharing it.

Outstanding! The fact that your heart hurts over these things proves it belongs to God. You are a sweet soul. Thank you for this poem.

My Heart Hurts, BUT I can feel Our Father God, massaging away the pain and hear Him whispering His Love for me in the recesses of my mind. Thank you Father and Thank you Sister Sky.
