My Little One

Updated on December 28, 2011

I am an artist, designer, photographer and writer. See more of my work on cmariearts.

My little one

There you are

Where were you all these years

Trapped inside dark dim spears

From the depths you crept up from tears

And stood alone amongst the tall oak

Pierced and prodded

You wailed from within

Not budging, not even an inch

All the while winds shattering your walls

The tides moving drowning your fall

How did you survive

All these turbulent years

Behind bars of protection

A little giggle between fears

When I least expected you

You surprised me the most

You wanted to feel safe

Letting your wings fly

Bright and shining

Through the clear skies

You were afraid to come out

And let the joy come in

I finally see you now

You're home again

This poem is about the inner child. How lost and scared it gets. How to bring that child out from deep inside and make it happy again.

This is really beautiful. The picture got to me... I guess because my little girl was premature. :)

As they rightly say, "There's a child inside each one of us". The child sometimes gets lost, and words like yours help bring it out. Loved it!

Caroline, An inner child patiently stays with us through thick and thin and accepts as many punches on the chin as possible on our behalf. And yet through all the downers and despair and upheavals, the inner child's heart is never tarnished and always holds out for peace and joy for us.

Your early question, "Where were you all these years," is balanced at the end with, "I finally see you now, you're home again."

Thank you for this reminder that change is within us, in our beginnings.

      Kind regards, Stessily
