My Love She Is A Tree

My Love She Is A Tree - Poetry by Cathy Nerujen

(This poem is my first Love poem on Hub Pages. It's a romantic tribute, and dedicated to someone who is very special and dear to me, Cassy.)

In the highest mountains ever
near Olympus stands a tree,
where once I fell - when wounded
on its bough -
when it found me.
In the thinnest of the mountain air,
it basked in all its might,
indifferent to the elements,
its shape was quite a sight.

This tree it was so sturdy,
oh this tree she was not tall,
yet all the wind and rain that blew could
never make her fall.
Outshining all the other trees, she drank
in all the sun –
she stood there as a storm shelter,
protecting anyone.
Bedazzled by her beauty there, I stayed and
rested soon,
but leaving her I just could not,
and sun gave way to moon.

Source

How strange it was, that past long day,
my burdens made a beach –
they played and swam within a rain,
then floated out of reach.
How strange it was I stayed with her,
this shelter from the storm -
her toughened branches –
hands became –
they took on friendly form.

And though this tree was
smooth to touch,
her bark was like cement,
she seemed so solid, wise yet young,
as almost Heaven sent.
My troubles they abated here,
though rain and sleet it blew,
her branches –
tree-top canopy –
made sure that nought got through.

I nestled in the bosom of this
life - affirming tree,
not sure what life had got in store,
for someone here like me.
I came to find a happiness
I’d never found before –
this tree, the leaves -
they spoke to me –
I warmed and wanted more -

as time goes by, like vine I grow
around her waist - and size –
my feet have sunk and taken root,
no longer seed am I.
She took me in as broken –
yet she made me whole again –
her lips are dew and Eldeweiss –
her blood is brandywine.

Source

In all my seedling voyages,
I’ve never known a youth –
her spirit has a power,
such a life – a love – a Truth.
My love she is a woman – oh
my love she is a tree –
she smells of sweetened lilac –
and her sweetness sets me free.
We live and stay and grow together,
good company are we,
in want, in love and happiness,
we will - forever be.

(For Cassy, the ever supportive friend in my life.)

Omg this is the third poem I read by you, Astra. This reminds me of stuff I read in school. Except more modern and in the moment. Your rhyming is slaying it. Your poem "The Halfway Space" is rhyming also. You turn the words in to a pure dance of rhythms and sounds.

I get you more now. Hub Pages is my new favorite hangout for poetry now.

Thank you joedolphin88 for reading the poem here. Yes, it is a tribute for a very special and amazing person. This is my first ever rhyming poem on HubPages. It got a lot of views, and it still gets plenty of reads. Thank you for checking out this hub, and my other poems.

      Have a sweet day. :)

That was a very nice tribute, again you make the words dance on the paper. I actually just wrote my first Hub Pages poem called Lucifer's question. I hope that my poetry is up to speed with many of the writer's on this site.

Hi pearldiver, thank you for this. Um, yes they are similar. That's trees for you. LOL. It's based on my relationship with another well known hubber from Hub Pages. And it is biographical in a way. It's one of my tributes to her. Trees are strong and impervious to the elements. I got that feeling with your hub too. You are a great writer, and I respect you and your work.

Have a great day, Pearldiver. :)

We are of similar intent Cathy... Your tree is as worthy of tribute in great words, as mine... I am amazed at how similar our works are, yet our trees are unrelated! This is a beautiful poem and so perfect a platform for a 'sapling' to develop and grow so unbroken and wise! Always admired your talent... poetry like this endorses every reason why... "Wow!!" Take care Tree! PD

Andreea, if you met her you would understand even more. LOL. Cassy is a strange miracle that somehow happened to me. And she has a nick name with her BFFs as Cheeky Girl. Both Cassy and Fehl (Blaise25 on Hub Pages) are two people so close to me now. Love is beautiful when it feels like this. Thank you for your kind words and nice comments. Yes, everyone seems to say that... about the love being beautiful and inspiring... It is just honest. And it is very real.

Have a sweet day, Andreea. Your new website is impressive and I love what you've done with the place. Hehehe... :)

Cathy, this is beautiful and a wonderful description of Cassy. It is an amazing love to find someone that can be tender and strong, and be there for you unconditionally. Your love for Cassy is always there for the world to see and it is beautiful and inspiring.

Hi JadedLove: it's nice of you to say this...to be honest I have been writing poetry for many years. This poem was my first one to post up on Hub Pages. I tend to take my time getting a poem as good as I can before letting anyone read the poem. Nailed it home, wow...I am so grateful for the comments here. The image of the tree and the person, it came easily as I love trees too. Ha. Thank you for the kind comments, Johnny.

Trees definitely have a presence and sense of life to them that is almost mystical and beyond us. But so worth exploring, even if it's just to make a tree-related poem, as I did here. Thanks for the voting up. You rock. :)

Hi @MagicBoy: it is nice to get your comments here today. I am about to publish another poem Hub. Oh, you read the "Encounters" hubs written by Cheeky Girl? That's great, as they make sense of everything in the poem you just read here. In a way, this poem "My Love she is a Tree" is from my side of things. It's also my first Hub Poem on Hub Pages.

H'mm, well, how I expressed it is simple romantic analogy of her as a tree. Ha. I know it's a tree, but believe me, it is also her too. It's most of her best qualities. I wished it could be more, but it got long on me, as poems go. Lots of my poetry is about Cassy. Though the meaning might also be analogous to other people I know in life too. I have some truly wonderful friends. There are some very loving people in this beautiful world.

(Almost blushes) Oh, you are flattering here big time now. But thanks for the kind words too, kind sir. Lol.

I will make a point now to check out your hubs and the forthcoming hub with the "tree" reference. I love trees. Lol. Thank you for the kind thoughts, blessings to you also today. :)

Hello Cathy, this is such a lovely poem filled with your love for Cassy, I could relate your quotes to the 'Encounters' mentioned in Cassy's hubs..I love the way you have expressed your love and affection towards her in the form of a Tree, even I has thoughts of referring a Tree in my next hub..you both are such beautiful women and I wish you stay happy and joyful always..sending your way a silent prayer..Cheers..

Hi Jess. Oh you are visiting from Cassy's "Encounters" hubs. You read them in the right order, though it doesn't really matter about the order, I am so glad you read them. Gosh, I am very happy. The Three hubs Cathy wrote tell how we met each other (I kind of cringed a bit when I saw them first, but I am okay now. Ha.) And the poem here is pretty directly related to this, Jess. Well, I am amazed at the reaction to it all. And I really need to say thanks for being so supportive and telling me this.

Well, now you know. And yes, Cassy is very protective and she looks out for me. Only Cassy could ever be Cassy. She is a strong-minded person. She loves this poem. Aw, one of the best...really? (Blushes) Okay, I am seriously smiling like crazy now. Lol. I wish I wrote as many hubs as she did. Jess, I love your comments here, you have made me very happy today. You are an awesome person for saying this. Thank you. Have a really great day today, and all the days. :D

P.s, that's my portrait below the comments box. :)

Cathy, I'm so glad Cassy mentioned this poem to me and said it was about her. It was unbelievable!! In an incredible good kind of way! I'm so happy that I did not read this before and read your other work first, then Cathy's encounter story about you, then this because it made it even that much better of an experience. Not that it's not totally awesome on it's own but I feel like after reading your work then the encounter part 1, 2, and 3 I was able to get a feel of how you both are people as individuals and this poem totally shows that as well. It was great and I enjoyed reading it so much. You described her how I pictured...her strength, her heart, how she protects, it was so beautiful. Your writing is really incredible. This has to be one of the best poems I have read. Great work!! Jess

Hello brightforyou: I love getting input and feedback from hub writers, and especially poets. You really liked this poem. Yes, the lines you quoted took me a long time to write, and I don't always rhyme them exactly with each other. And the flowers and herbs and images are carefully chosen. (Sometimes I feel like a cook writing poetry.)

I will certainly read your poetry. Thanks for asking me. The tree title got my attention. Take care.

Hi Blaise, you are so sweet to tell me this. Now that you mention it, the feature was not there when I started on hub pages.

The greek reference you talk about is a little bit deliberate here. I am very much into mythology and legends and exotic history, back in the times when the rules were different when it came to self-expression. And it was a time when women were viewed a different way. I like bringing you back to your rooftop. It's a contemplative place where a person can find themselves and ponder the meaning of life and friendship.

I hope more people read your wonderful poetry, you are a diamond, blaise. I will be more active on the hubs from now on.

Hello katiem2: Thank you for the kind comments and yes, I love trees too: I am a Tree hugging girl myself! LOL! Trees are strong and safe and protective, and they were inspired by my fellow hubber Cheeky Girl. I think trees are magic too. (People think I was raised on a farm for saying things like this, but I wasn't!) I am glad you liked it. You'll be happy to know another poem is going up here very soon!

Astra Nomik, I love trees there is something so perfect and safe about a tree, any tree as if I came from it. I don't know the complete magic of trees but I do know that they are. Thanks for this beautful expression you are an amazingly gifted writer. Peace :)

Hello lalesu: Thank you for your kind comment. I am glad you like the poetry. I admit that rhyming poetry is very tough and takes a long time for me to write rhyme. I left poetry after I left school and only took it up again recently. I missed it and I love it too. I will check out your hubs too.

Lovely, just lovely. I cannot write in rhyme (a topic I am currently working on, ironically) and I so admire those who do it without sounding 'sing-songy' or 'kitschy' in the process.

Maita, can I say that Cassy was more affected than me? She's a big softie under it all. (She will murder me for saying it) I got so overwhelmed, I forgot to rate it or comment. I am not absent-minded. I love true talent stories. Your Jovit Baldivino hub is the best hub I have read in ages. I feel I am witnessing the beginning of what will be a fruitful life foe him and his family. He will bring them all luck, I hope. The video you put there says it all, really. Bless you, my friend. "Mabuhay!" :)

Hy Patty: Aw, wow. Thank you for the nice comments! My friend Cassy said something like this when she realised it was about her, but she didn't say it as well as you did here. Heh! I must check out the Shel Siverstein book, as it sounds interesting to me. I have to check my Renaissance books for this and yes, people do say it has musical qualities. Inspiration and Love had a lot to do with this poem here. I appreciate your most kind comments. I will visit your hubs often. : )

I've seen few poems with such movement and emotional impact, along with hope for a continuing nourishment and splendid future. Shel Siverstein gave a mesaure of that in his book "The Giving Tree", but the tree of your poem and it's/her world are much more. It also reminds me of Renaissance ballads. Your poem could be set to music.

Hello Peggy: Oh what a lovely comment. Thank you for this. Yes, there is protection and nurturing and strength, you are right. And beauty and shelter... and more besides. Well, I was very inspired and moved but a person do write it. I am planning more. I have enjoyed your work, too Peggy. Thanks again.

Hello DjBryle: I don't know what to say to this, I have never written anything that ever made someone cry (except one lady, she'll kill me for saying it). I am flattered that it touched you that way. Oh my. Thankyou for these words - this means a lot to me. :) I will be writing more poetry soon.

Bon Jour, Astra...your poetry is so rich, multi-level images with phrases that stir the reader within! Your tree is so nuturing and loving, your lover so yielding and the intertwining of the two, brings inspiration of limbs co-mingling with limbs not only of wood but of flesh, scents in the nostrils, not only of pine and cedar wood, dogwood and cherry, but of the mystical mysterious fragrances of love. Thank you, your talent lives amist the highest of talents in our Hubworld!!!
