My Many Projects

Updated on June 3, 2010

I know I haven't posted a hub in many months, but I have good reasons. I had to move back in with my parents and they don't have wireless which means I have to share one computer with them to go online. Not my favorite thing. In addition to that about a month or so after my last post, my grandfather passed and I didn't have a whole lot I felt like sharing. So anyway, that's why I've been negligent of my hubs. But now I'm back and I'm going to fill you in on all the projects I've been working on in an attempt to get out of my unemployed slump.

I'm not sure where to start exactly because to be honest I'm kind of all over the place. I guess I'll start with my crafty things.

I created an etsy account. You can find it at On it I have a few scarves I've crocheted, several pocket books I crocheted, and a lot of beaded jewelry., for those of you who don't know, is a site for people to sell homemade or vintage(older than 20 years) items. I had these things from some craft fairs I'd worked last year.

I'm also trying to start my own business right now. I created a web store at I take used curtains, table cloths, sheets, clothing, etc. and make one of a kind pieces of clothing. To help advertise for my business I actually created accounts at twitter, hubpages, and shesconnected. I also made a facebook group for it as well.

Now that summer is starting and I'm still on Long Island, I'm the costume designer for my dad's theatre group again. And, lucky me, it's a 30's show again. Actually, it takes place from 1928- 1946. Even better. The main character, alone, has 14 costumes. Lord, help me. They've only been rehearsing for about a week and I already have my research and costume plot done and have pulled costumes from our wardrobe trailer for the leads. That'll keep me busy for a while.

Now let's talk about my writing projects. A couple years ago I discovered how theraputic it is to write. Even if it's fiction, it's nice to get wrapped up in a story. Especially when you've got a lot of crap in your life. Letting yourself disappear into writing a story, totally takes your mind off of everything. So I've got 4 stories started and ideas for about 5 more. I don't know if anything will ever become of any of them, or even if I'll finish them but it's keeping me occupied right now and that's really all I need. So let me give you a little summary of each one.

2 of them are romances actually. I guess when you're single for as long as I've been, everything turns into romantic wishful thinking. The first one is about a young woman who is enjoying the single life to her fullest ability (aka, she's a bit of a slut) until one night when she gets tired of it and tries to go home alone. This guy she'd been flirting with attacks her and another guy, who'd been pining for her from afar, rescues her. He takes care of her and they fall in love.

The second romance is about two people who had dated twice before, as teenagers, and never quite clicked. They always had the feelings but the timing wasn't right. They didn't see each other for many years. He moved away and got married young. She went to college and had several other relationships. He comes home for a visit and ends up seeing her and he realizes that she's always been the one he's been waiting for. Now he's just got to convince her to give him another chance.

Then I have another book that I guess would be classified as Christian Fiction. It's about the second coming of Christ and the end of the world. I was inspired by the Book of Revelation and also the song "what if God was one of us". I haven't gotten very far in this one yet because I need to finish reading the book of revelation and do some research about other religions. I'm really interested in it though and I'm excited to see where it all goes. I'm trying to humanize Jesus as much as I can.

The last book that I started working on (and it might actually be my favorite so far) is a vampire book. I know, I know. Vampires are so in your face right now and alot of them are weeny vampires. But, in my defense, I've always had a thing for them and I'm trying to make this story more interesting. This story is about a young woman who is one of the first settlers in America and she meets a vampire. As it turns out vampires only existed in america at the time. They fall in love but they get attacked and he ends up getting killed while she was in transition. So she wakes up transformed and alone. She spends the next 500ish years finding and creating destruction. She's in a small town one night, ready to attack a young man but he poisons her and kidnaps her. He turns out to be a serial killer who found humans too easy. She's torn between finding him frightening and intriguing.

So that's where I'm at right now. Employment doesn't seem like a possibility so I'm trying to start my own things as best as I can. My number one priority is obviously getting my business started but these other things keep me sane and focused.
