"My New Hat" by Eric Wayne Flynn

"My New Hat"

I look good in my new hat

Sharp with a touch of class

Driving people

Crazy

The kids still gotta twinkle in his eye too

A distant star that shines in the back of my mind

I like my new hat

It's comfortable

But sometimes it feels like a coffin on my head

Heavy

Burdening

Reminding me of our final stop

Wrinkled and exhausted

Scared that the sun is going to run out on us

Leaving us cold and alone

I look fly in my new hat

Ive worn so many already

I can't wait to drive

Off a cliff

Tossing this thing like a frisbee as I scream and laugh

Writing and rewriting my history and my future

I tell ya I look good in my new hat

It really is a clever disguise

Or a reflection of my failures

Either way ima wear it with pride

Your use of pauses is clever, Eric and adds much to the written word. Having been in the "livery" business myself, I relate! Poignant piece; have fun in your new adventure, my friend!
